My specs are in my sig, since the 7800GTX 512 was announced to drop to $400, should I sell my current video card quickly and get the new one, take the rest of my system into consideration thanks.

Should you? No. Because your GPU can already handly anything on the market right now. Could you? Yes. Because the 7800 GT is still considered a very hot item and I'm sure you could get a good price on it (especially considering it's a CO and you've achieved a stable overclock).

Basically, I'd suggest making a FS thead in the Anandtech For Sale/Trade Forum and try to sell it for nearly retail value. If you can, then sure, why not upgrade to an absolutely badass 7800GTX 512? Also keep in mind that the 7900 cards are on their way. Check out the reviews/previews on DailyTech (link).

Please get a new PSU. Your sig hurts my eyes.

Yeah the price reduction on the 7800GTX 512 is like some cruel joke or Nvidia trying to make fun of the more frugal purchasers of their cards.

You got a point there my video card does perform well in every game, I heard there's some problem with directx 10 and the 7800GT what's that all about?

Don't upgrade to the 7800GTX. Instead, sell the 7800GT and get a Radeon X1900XT since it totally pwns teh 7800GTX 512mb.

I would say no, unless you can do the "Step-Up" option. Even then I'd step-up to a 7900 instead.

you have $400 to spend do this: spend $50 on a fortron 450w. $300 on a 3800x2. $100 DFI board. if you won't get any visible graphic improvement, why not upgrade the rest?

i personally would save them money though

Get the X1900XT. It'll be much better for you 3 years down the road.

here is a stupid question...: What is the differance between a X1900XT and an X1900XT crossfire edition?

None of these cards are DirectX 10 parts and cards supporting that will not be out until much later this year. If that is your concern then wait until such parts are out and then reconsider the situation. Even then I doubt you'll need to upgrade as your current graphics card is more than powerful enough at the moment.

You need one of each to run in crossfire, either card will work by itself too. But if doing a single card, use the XT non-crossfire so you don't spend more

Wait a little longer to get a new video card, like when Vista comes out. Vista only HDCP though some monitors can do this, there isn't a single videocard on the market that can work with HDCP paired with Vista. Plus they've already said there wont be a patch or anything to download to modify the card.

I'd go with a X1900XT but for here and now rather than 3 years down the road. Who keeps a graphics card 3 years these days?

the few extra framerates will probably be quite unnoticable to you anyway.

I kept my GF2 GTS 32MB for a while.

OP, what monitor do you use?

My monitor is a sony HS95 19" flat screen 1280 by 1024 max res.
Edit: I also had a geforce 2 before I upgraded to the 7 series. those were the days.
