upgraded to audigy 2 ZS and now 10 frame loss in bf2?

yea title says it all. yes i do admit the sound quality is SUPER. but is the nice sound killing my frames? isnt that what the sound card does ake better sounds with out taking away performance? help!

if you got the audigy 2 zs VALUE model, then your card doesnt do hardware processing of the sound! did you happen to switch from a soundcard that did hardware processing or something along those lines? do you have the value model? answer that and we'll go from there...

i do not i have the ZS with gold ports. i switched from onboard sound that wast half bad. realtek acl653 or something i forgot

Did you double-check that you have "Hardware" sound selected in battlefield?

Where did you here this? The A2 Value and and A2 Zs are identical except for:

1) A2 Zs has firewire
2) A2 Zs is THX certified

Otherwise, it is the same chip/drivers.

In BF2 make sure you have enabled hardware sound under the audio options tab.
What were your settings before and now?
Did you uninstall the old audio drivers and disable the on-board sound in the bios?

yea i did uninstall with driver cleaner also....and my onboardsound is disabled.

Yes, all of the audigy 2 versions do hardware proessing.

Edit: to get back to the original posters question. I've heard rumors that running on 'high' settings in the audio options has caused a decrease in performance. From what I recall switching to medium fixed this issue for some with no decernable loss in sound quality. Your milage may vary...

hmm nig find...didnt even know they had a chart.....the value series doenst even look any differnt than the rest...only thing i see differnt is not thx reall.

Geez....now I am not so sure to upgrade my Abit AudioMax since this whole thing was for BF2.

'tis conceivable that performance could remain aboot the same but with the higher settings (previous software audio was incapable of EAX4 or such). A drop certainly seems wrong but then again with those system specs is it significant or just a few percent anyway? Are the latest drivers installed? Has the DS3D wrapper in the BF2 folder been replaced with the OAL driver for optimal performance?
