upgrading a celeron 566

I know this is ancient, but I had forgotten how far up I can upgrade a celeron 566. Can anyone refresh my memory? THanks!

hmm....566 must be a 133mhz bus. If its socket 370, then I think you could go up to like 1.1ghz or 1.2, but a PIII at equivelant speeds would be a bit faster (obviously).

566MHz Celeron is a coppermine core on a 66MHz fsb. You have a socket 370 motherboard that will support a 100MHz fsb for sure, maybe 133, you will have to check. But it should support all socket 370 coppermine cpu's including Pentium 3 which top out at 1.0GHz. It might also be possible to use a socket adapter and then a Celeron Tualatin which comes in a 1.4GHz speed.

yeah, first figure out what chipset you have. you should be able to look at the mobo (or device manager from within windows) and tell or just tell us what kind of mobo it is (I hope it's not a Dell). Then, we can figure out what the limit is.

lol. Didn't see that. an 8.5x multi would work. I was wrong. I think though that tutalins came in up to 1.33ghz (10x133).

lol, yep. Gotta love those old school Celeron overclocks!!

If you have a 100MHz fsb setting that you can force, then you're 566 Celly will run 850MHz.

It might take a slight increase in core voltage, back in the day I overclocked 10 or 12 and all made a 100MHz fsb or more, but all required a little more than the stock voltage.

I had a couple of those back in the day... 850 is pretty easy to hit. Might have to bump the voltage a tiny bit though.

i'll have to check and see what chipset it is .. i haven't gotten the comp as yet but it is a gateway profile 1.8

if u got the right memory that is almost a guarenteed 850 o/c

just up the volt a bit.

my 633 required 1.70v , but it was super solid @ 950

Don't any of you think that you should first check the BIOS and update if possible before trying to overclock??

well, the BIOS doesn't matter. If you want to OC this, you're going to have to do a pin mod on the CPU. I'll try to get a link with some more info on how to do this.
