I bought my GlobalWin 802 case in early 2001. It was a top flight case back then and I bought it to house an Athlon AXIA 1Ghz, that I later pushed to over 1.4Ghz on an old Abit KG7.

Now at the end of 2009 this case has seen 3 different platforms inside it, along with around 5 CPU's, but I was getting tired of 80mm fan noise and general restriction. The cooling was not up to par and my hard drives were suffering. It currently has an E6400 @3,2Ghz in it and that gets up to 77c when loaded in Prime95. Something had to give.

I'm a little misty eyed about this as it has been, for all intents and purposes, a good case. It just doesn't meet my requirements in 2010 and beyond.

Anyway, here is the old faithful, prior to gutting:

And the insides:

Here is a shot of the old and the new, side by side:

Here, most of the components had been transplanted and I was working out which way to route cables:

Complete!

Fired up and glowing:

All in all I really like the case. The tool less drive mounts, the space for 8 HDD's before you reconfigure anything and the massive cooling from the 6 supplied fans is great. It looks good, too.

On to temps, now P95 runs at 67-69c so up to 10c lower, and mobo temp is 12c above ambient. Nt only that, but the new case is very much quieter than the previous 80mm noise fest. HDD temps have dropped significantly, too.

I question the utility of blow-hole fans (top mount). Several sites have data showing the lack of significant contribution to cooling. I'd suggest unplugging those and blocking off their openings as an experiment. May cut noise even farther.

The top fans are not the greatest contributors to noise. The two front 120mm fans are.

The top rear fan produces noticeably warmer air. This is due to the rear fan pulling air in to feed the CPU cooler, then that air being drawn upward by the top mounted fans. Also, as these are the only exhaust fans, bar the PSU which is irrelevant as it is bottom mounted, it's essential IMHO that they are operational.

I'm going to pop a spare Zalman Fanmate2 onto the front fans and experiment with those, but all in all it's not really a noisy unit. My previous case with high CFM 80mm fans was at least twice as loud!
