upgrading a notebook video card

I have a HP pavillion n5190 with a 4mb video card. I wanted to know if I can upgrade this card to 8mb and which one I should get?

I'm not sure, but I think graphics on notebooks are onboard, so you can't change them like you can in a desktop.

If you want to do any real 3D with that stuff, I don't think that the video card that came with teh Pavillion n5190 is any good at all. And its not upgradable. You wouldn't notice much of a difference with the performance, too (theoretically, of course)

they are correct. new video controller for notebook = new notebook.

if you really do want one, i suggest buying a new book, and selling your old one.

i took my xh216 apart, and well the 4mb card is removable its on a little board. i suppose you could get one of the 8mb savage ix's like the newer higher end pavilion like 800mhz and up models. Or if you knew someone who could get spare parts at say compusa, you could get it.

You might want to try to find a docking station.
With my Toshiba, the $25 (e8ay) docking station I found has PCI and ISA slots. 12 meg Voodoo2 works great in it. Of course not when it is mobile, but works fine on the home lan.

Notebook video chips can't be upgraded...you're better off buying a new tower with the latest and greatest..then, when upgrade time comes again, it wont be so much trouble to get a new part!

The new Geforce chips, (what are they, Geforce2Go?) may be more future proof. Anything that, even today, seems kinda old is a no-no if you like graphics.
