Upgrading a Toshiba 3505

so i'm still a little pissed that the Centrino model tablets came out 2 months after I got my 3505. After some serious heat issues and some other stuff, i've been comtemplating trying to upgrade the thing.

before i get into this, the thought crossed my mind "hey, I have a systemguard 100% accidental coverage plan still active. maybe if i just beat the crap out of the mobo and processor, they won't have any more laying around." If anyone actually thinks that would work, let me know.

back to what I was saying. The new tablets, from what I can tell, use a case that's the same size, same for the screen. So, since as far as I can tell the mobile P3 board won't support a pentium M, if I could round up the parts for the bottom half of the notebook (mobo, processor, housing, vid. card), I can I *think* still use the same screen (HD, RAM, etc. not at issue).

Any thoughts on this one? or am I just hatching another hair-brained scheme?

The casing on the M200 series is completely different from the 3500 series. Even the LCD inside of the casing is different between the models. Other than the HDD and a few other small miscellaneous parts, nothing will work in the M200.
Now the systemguard states that it provides one complete system replacement a year. What that means is that Toshiba will replace each damaged part in the machine once a year. Of course you could have 10 defective parts and all will be replaced, but they will only replace one damaged part a year (how they keep track I do not know).
Our service center missed an awesome chance to see a systemguard warranty come through because the owner was only in town for one more day. The guy was using his laptop on the balcony of his hotel and accidentally dropped it off. On the phone he said that the lower half of the laptop was basically broken in half. It was a consumer model (5105 or 5205 series if I remember) and we don't stock as many consumer model parts so he decided to wait till he got to his hometown to get it repaired. I myself fixed up a Satellite A25 with chocolate milk spilled into it a month ago. It would have cost the customer $1001 before tax (Toshiba would have charged ~$1264, maybe more because I cleaned up some plastics and a fan that they are too lazy to do).

alright then, so if i had to claim systemguard and, say, the system was totally trashed...if the mobile PIII were no longer available, what would happen?

edit: i ask cause i've been looking around, and it looks like intel isn't putting out nearly as many, if any, moblie PIII 1.33ghz chips these days...and I have a 3 year systemguard.

I beleive manufacturers are required by law to keep parts in stock for 3 years. I can still get parts for laptops that are 8 years old from Toshiba.
