Upgrading From a 4890 - Best Bang for Buck Right Now?

You made a great deal.. 660ti for $200 is sweet.

But its odd, you are here to seek advice, almost everyone recommended 7850 or 7870... then you go decided to get a 660. Reasons?

Well, I'd have to say, most of us recommended the 7850/7870 because at 'typical' prices those cards offer better performance/price than the GTX cards.

However, GTX 660 Ti @ $200 completely blows that ratio out of the water!!

Good job there, guess it pays to grumble sometimes.

It's funny, I too have a 4890, and I just upgraded to a 7850 for $150, I was pretty pleased with that deal.

I'm weird, I usually like to buy things locally. Although in this instance, I almost had to. I almost always have bad luck with ordering online (including Newegg), and almost always have to RMA at least once. I don't know why, but my luck is just horrible with that stuff. When that happens I'm usually waiting 2+ weeks to get my original working part. Sucks.

As such, I usually look for the best bang for buck, and then go and try to find a good deal on that product locally, usually at best buy or something similar. I do get non-working products when I buy locally, but then I just have to run down to the store, and swap it out then and there. No games, no waiting, nothing. I don't mind paying an extra $20-$30 for convenience - even though in this instance inconvenience won out - but I got a killer deal in the end. Plust BestBuy, nor any other local outlet, had any AMD cards worth getting. Why does every local store carry a lot more Nvidia products?

Well, there are two reasons why I mainly buy locally. One is that I can't be asked to wait for the shipping or do not want to spend money on the shipping. But the second reason is more important; I like the guys in the stores (two good ones in my town) and I want them to stay in business. However, now and then a deal online is too good to pass up, like my fans that I got for $5 a piece.

NICE! I personally just went through this tossup for my girlfriends budget build. We ended up picking up that 220$ newegg blackfriday 660ti.
I think @ 200 660ti is a no brainer, but at full price I would vote 7950.
