Upgrading Integreated Video to PCI

Hi,
I'm having problems installing a new PCI video card in win2k. There is an integrated ati Rage II on the motherboard. When I put the new video card in, there's no display, the monitor just goes black, whether the monitor is plugged into the ATI or the new PCI card. the motherboard is an older Ancrhorage, I looked in the bios but saw nothing for disabling video. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

There should be a jumper on the mobo that lets you disable the onboard video.

Looked for that too. Here's a diagram of the layout of the board:

Was hoping it lead to some info on where the jumpers are located. If anyone can lend some more help it would be really appreciated.

check in the BIOS if there is a way to enable/disable onboard video and to prioritize PCI video ahead of onboard video.

Before you install a new video card you have to make your video settings factory - lowest resolution (640 X 840) and colors 16. Right clock on your desktop and go to properties then settings and make the changes. Reboot then shut off computer. Install new video card and reboot. If you are still having trouble check on the mobo and it looked from the diagram you had there may be a jumper next to the video chip (Z on the diagram - look on the PCI slot side of the chip for the jumper). If there is no jumper then it has to be disabled in the bios.

Are you sure it is possible to disable the onboard video? On some proprietary systems, it couldnt be disabled.
I had an old Compaq that had onboard video. There was no option in the bios or on the board to disable the video.
When I put in a PCI voodoo3, I think I had to go into the device manager and remove the driver for the onboard display adapter.

Have you tried all available open PCI slots? Given the fact that this an older proprietary mobo, no jumpers for disabling(that I see anyway) and you say there is no way of doing so in the bios, you may very well not get it to work. Look in BIOS and see if you see an option that says something like "Primary VGA function: onboard/PCI" If so, set to PCI and try again. Good luck.
