Upgrading Laptop Ram, DDR or DDR2?

Hi, I've got a compaq laptop thats about 1 year old that currently has 2x256 DDR memory sticks (I think its DDR at least, the label just says DDR) I am wanting to put 2x512 in it but im not sure which type of RAM I need. If it currently has DDR, will DDR2 sticks fit? Or should I just get DDR? Thanks

For only a year old it's kinda strange it uses DDR and not DDR2, but go with whatever the label says. DDR2 memory won't fit in a DDR slot, so don't worry about frying anything.

Edit: if you're talking about the machine in your signature, I can guarantee it uses DDR1.

ok thanks, I guess its just DDR then, since thats what it says on the label of the sticks that are in there now. And its not the system in my sig, its a laptop
