Upgrading pc, need suggestions...

Alright guys, I've kinda been out of the scene for a few months and need some advice..

I currently have $400 available for an upgrade...

I noticed that alot of people are speaking of the new socket 939 Athlon 64 cpu's. This is definitely the route that I want to take..

What cpu/mb combo would you suggest.

My current specs are the following..

Xp 2800+ @3200
Corsair XMS PRO 3200xl 1 gig
Asus a7n8x deluxe 2.0
Pny Geforce 6800 gt @ ultra speeds
Antec Trueblue 480 watt p/s
Audigy 2 Platinum Ex

You don't need an upgrade as of now, wait for the nforce 4 motherboards to come in....

Same, seems good to me. Although, sound card technology has been stagnating for the past couple years since Creative sued Aureal to death.

There's not much poiut waiting for Nforce 4 since it's PCIe only, and I am pretty sure you don't want throw away that video card. I would get a 90nm A64 3000+ and overclock it to 2.5+GHz using either a Epox 9NDA3+ or a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mobo (read the reviews and decide for yourself).

Yeah, I agree with Nickel, if you really want better CPU performance, get the 3000 and one of those boards, but NForce4 is useless unless you are willing to part with that pretty video card you have. Personal preference though, wait another year before upgrading, the performance difference isnt significant enough unless you are hardcore.

Im gonna go ahead and take most of your advices and wait for some new stuff to come out.. I'm definitely not gonna take the nforce 4 route since its PCI express. Feel like its too soon to be changing my video card, after all it is performing like a champ..hehe.. Will wait for some sicker socket 939 nforce 3 250gb boards to come out..
