Upgrading to GTX560?

It's been a while since I upgraded and am looking to get a new video card. Was just wondering if the GTX560 was a good fit for my system, or is it overkill.

Current system:

GTX260 w/ 896 MB ram
OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM2+ 125W
Asus M4N82 Deluxe Socket AM2+ / AM3. Nforce 980A
resolution 1920x1080

So is the GTX560 too fast for the rest of the system or will I be able to get max, or almost max, performance from it. Or do I need to consider upgrading the CPU, ram, etc. also?

well you left out the res which is very important. in general though your cpu is just fine for that level of card. you also have a BE so hopefully you have a decent cooler and can oc it a bit too. I don't know why you would want a gtx470 though when a gtx560 is better in every way.

Thanks. I haven't been following video cards lately. Probably since I last upgraded in 2009. So I am out of the loop to say the least. I will check out the gtx560. thanks for the heads up.

And my screen res is 1920x1080.

Here's the AnandTech benchmark collection for the card. It looks like you'll get playable frame rates for pretty much everything with high settings.

I agree the GTX 560 would be a nice upgrade, with substantial performance improvement - but not fantastic since the 260 is still a credible card even if getting a little long in the tooth. On the THG hiearchy of cards, it is only two steps up and they recommend 3 before upgrading.

Have you confimred you PSU is adequate to the task? The GTX 560 Ti uses only about 20w more at load, but then you PSU is also aging which reduces its power.

Yes that PSU should be more than adequate.

Crysis 2 comes out next Tuesday, March 22nd and you will be more than ready for that if you get the GTX 560 Ti.

I'm probably going to wait until the fall when both Rage and Battlefield 3 come out before I upgrade.
