A friends wants to upgrade his Win98 system to XP, but he has some old programs he doesn't want to lose.

After the upgrade to XP, if he can't use his old programs, can he uninstall the XP upgrade and revert to Win 98 SE?

Thanks!

no, but there are other options such as running troublesome apps in compatibility mode as well as a dual-boot setup

Thats incorrect.
If he leaves his filesystem as Fat32, then you can uninstall WinXP and revert back to Win98.

Tell your friend to setup a DUAL-BOOT... Compatability mode is NOT the answer... it fails more often then it works... it's well documented there are plenty of programs that flat-out will not run in WinXP no matter what you do.

Still, you need WinXP for a lot of other things... so if he likes his old software but also wants XP, then the best option for your friend is to simply setup a Dual-Boot system... he'll have the best of both worlds.

There's plenty of free advice on the net on how best to setup a dual-boot... just Google it.

I have a dual-boot for WinME and WinXP... I love the flexibility it offers for old and new software.
