I figured this topic would be best fit here since the reason behind this is to view photos on TVs, phones, and computers.
Right now our current setup for handling photos is:
-All home photos are stored on a local server
-When we want to view photos on a TV, we use the Plex app via Roku
-When viewing on a computer we view the photos through a file browser
Downsides to this setup are:
-The Roku Plex App is ugly
-Unable to view photos outside of the home or on mobile devices*
-Uploading photos from phones to the server isn't as streamlined as it should/could be
*I know I can open up a port and install the Plex apps, but it doesn't seem worth it to purchase an app for each person just for the very rare occasion of needing to see family photos outside of the home.
After Yahoo announced that Flickr now has 1tb of storage, it seemed like a great solution.
Pros:
-Photos are backed up without having to worry about them
-Roku and Apple TV apps are available to view on TVs
-One can log into Flickr from any computer with internet
-Flickr apps on mobile devices allow you to upload pictures you've taken right away
Cons:
-This is where I feel like I'm overlooking something. My photos aren't really something I'm worried about people stealing, a lot of them are probably already on the social media sites anyway, but security is always a concern.
Thoughts?
