Yes, it's a desktop processor, but KDS claimed that they have a "pantented technology in the BIOS that performs the same function as Intel's SpeedStep technology"... I wonder if they're lying or not... They probably did something like intergrate SoftFSB or a similar software into the BIOS. wouldn't be too hard to do.

This system is at least $400-500 cheaper than it's closest competitors, and it has a claimed battery life of 2.5 hours...

I happened to pick up one of those IBM laptops last week, but had been considering this KDS unit pretty hard. I see that Buy.com price is now down to $1049 + Shipping (and before any coupons).

Computer4sure.com also have these but the current price show $1149. Not sure what stock is at Buy.com but Computer4sure.com has 774 so maybe price will go down even more. Link

Seems like a lot of laptop (features anyway) for the money.

Got a friend who got this exact model. He upped the RAM etc, seams very good. I want to get me one. Only downside battery life kinda sucks, around 1 1/2 hrs. Lacking compared to the normal 2 hour life (but for that price get a second battery), but decent laptop. Even does decent OpenGL (he brought it over to my LAN party). KDS if a value brand, but they have been around a long time. It is a little louder than some laptops but certainly worth the money. No major hassles. BTW he got it when they first came out for around 1500 (still a steal then too).

For Ai42: Did your friend got the standard SODIMM for the KDS notebook? 'cos I have a friend got one from Sam'sClub, he also want to check the RAM upgrade. When I check Kingston web site, it look like that is not a standard memory, if they use standard SODimm, I can get them from the wholesaler friend. The battery life is short, but it only cost less than $150 to get a extra battery from Buy.com. I think the price comparison to the other major brand like HP Compaq, Toshiba or IBM, this KDS save at lease $400.

I dunno the exact details but he did mention it was a SODIMM. So I'm guessing it was a 144pin pc100/pc133 SODIMM. I really don't know, just pop the thing open and figure it out.

My step father just got one at my recommendation last week. I ran across a review of it. NICE screen at 14.1.

I have a Compaq Armada, and I like the KDS.

Battery life sux because they are using a REAL p3 processor, not the mobile one.
