Ok, this is clever if it works; dumb idea if it doesn't (stuff you can only come up with when working @ 1am on a weekend)

In my server room I have 6 Battery-backups. They are all little ones between 500VA and 700VA. So I everytime I add equipment or move things I have to be careful to spread the load somewhat evenly. This is guess work, so $20 says if the power fails half my stuff is dead in 2min and something small and useless will run for 2 hours.

So I start thinking....How can I pool these guys so they act as one?
This is were my brain starts to stutter(need sleep), it's been to long since physics class. Do you chain these guys in series, wire them in parallel, is it even possible to turn them into little Borg drones?

If you have an idea, or perhaps have done this in the past, please drop a line.

Theoretically, you should wire them in series. One ups plugged into the back of another then another. The idea is that when one ups dies, the next ups kicks in and when that one dies, the next one kicks in. This guarentees that all your equipment will operate for the same length of time. I don't know how good of an idea this is, but serial is the way to go, not parallel.

However then you will place overload on your UPS's by pushing more power throu them then is designed. Unfortuntly there is no way with comsumer class UPSs to upgrade or daisy chain them.
