UPS Damaged Box

Has anyone ever had UPS open up their package??

Long story short I ordered a car accessory online to enable auxiliary input on my car and just got the package at my front door step today.

I pick up the box and notice there is a large square tear on the top as if someone cut a square hole in the box. Thinking that UPS may have inspected the internals I checked whether or not I was able to remove the contents from the square opening and what do you know...it was a perfect fit. It appears that someone knew the size of the contents and created a square opening just large enough to take my accessory out...and then put it back in.

Everything seems like it's in its original packaging though, but this still weirds me out!

Yes, as a matter of fact UPS does frequently check packages.

If by 'check' you mean 'kick the ever-loving shit out of.'

why would UPS take the time to inspect a package? especially if it just an ordinary looking box (I am making an assumption here)...they deal with god knows how many packages every day, ...

a more logical guess is that somehow during the transport of the package, it got damaged somehow...large square tear could have been caused by a mechanical sorter or whatever else might touch the package while it is being processed...

Or maybe, the place you bought it from just cut a whole and put your item in the box. May have nothing to do with UPS.

Yes. Those that have not been sufficiently damaged are rerouted back through the system until they're properly destroyed.

UPS doesn't have the manpower to inspect even a small fraction of the packages going through their facilities.

looks like someone has never taken a Critical Thinking class before...UPS delivers an average of over 15 million packages a DAY...why would they waste their time inspecting one package?

I have received hundered of UPS packages (i make full use of my Amazon Prime membership) and have never had a single problem with them.

United Parcel Service Inc., a major carrier for online retailers, reported today that average U.S. daily small-package volume fell 2.8% year over year for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, to 15.15 million from 15.58 million units

I have received hundered of UPS packages (i make full use of my Amazon Prime membership) and have never had a single problem with them.

You know they have these fancy machines nowadays called XRAY machines that can alert somebody to inspect a package if they think it's hazardous. I would be completely surprised if they don't XRAY the vast majority of items. Obviously there are certain items you do not want to pass through the machine.. but isn't that a point of asking whats in the box when you ship it?

The airlines probably do that and more, so yes I would expect them to xray their packages. Would you want a driver driving around with a bomb in his truck? Didn't think so.

UPS also indicated that they do not x-ray packages within the U.S.


UPS does reserve the right to XRAY your packages however...

It's obvious you have no clue. Like customs...sometimes they open the box, sometimes they don't. Chances are it's not just one box though.

If they were going to open the package for inspection, they would just open it the regular way and tape it closed again. They would not cut any holes.

I already provided a link from camera site who called UPS about their shipping policies and they confirmed that packages in the US are not xrayed. Granted it is one site, but they have no reason to lie about this information.

Where is your proof that boxes are opened, xrayed, etc??? or is this speculation on your part?
