Often we're "in" but miss deliveries that require signing because we're out on ATVs or in the field. (rancher here)

We carry cell phones and use texting exclusively. Can I request that the UPS driver text us so we can meet him at the gate to sign for a package? It sure in the hell would be convenient!

No I'm pretty sure you can't do that. Be around the house if you're expecting something.

The weather has caught us by surprise and our wood supply is low for mid Dec. We've also had some ridiculous wind storms take down trees so it's been crazy busy here. If that's not enough my brother thinks its OK to let the chain touch the ground when sawing logs so now I got two chains to sharpen by hand in 20 degree weather.

Getting packages for xmas this week so I cannot miss a delivery.

I guess that idea of the doorbell sending a text is not such a bad idea. :hmm:

You could get a pair of cheap walkie-talkies and hang one on the gate whenever you are expecting a delivery.

Even if you could I doubt they would use. We have a security gate on the road back to our house and have provided the security code to UPS over 15 times and they still won't use it. Fedex on the other hand would use it all the time and still secure the package at the house, even though we live way out in the sticks. Now we just leave the gate open when expecting a package. Also both carriers of a form you can sign that will allow them to act as an agent and sign for you when they leave a package. This of course means you need to trust your driver as this from releases the carrier from ANY obligation once they show the package as delivered.

UPS doesn't even ring my doorbell. They just leave package by the door. No bell no knock.

Yeah the gate is open during normal business hours. I've heard they won't open them even with a code. That's just plain lazy.

Signature release is risky because we had packages end up missing that were claimed delivered. When the driver came out and asked if I thought it was stolen I looked at him and he knew exactly what I was going to say. The nearest neighbor is 3 miles away! :|

The radio idea could work but they would have to actually pick it up and say something into it! We've used GMRS radios in the trails but now we have unlimited texting and voice and it works great.

One time I knew I needed to sign a package, I left a note for the UPS guy to call me since I would probably be sleeping. He called me, but I didn't wake up... :$

I made sure to stay up the next day so I wouldn't miss him though.

That's a good idea I'll try that and make sure someone is nearby just in case.

Damn that's cheap! I know HF tools are not the greatest but that looks way faster than using a dremel and stone. The comments on that site say it's pretty decent considering the cost.
