Ok, just have to vent here. =) I would like to give UPS my congratulations on the slowest and most obscure route to get a computer from Seattle to Eugene Oregon.

Laptop's shipped out to me on the 25th via UPS from Dell
Laptop went from
Washington to Texas (maybe mike wanted to sign it or something)
Texas to Utah
Utah to idaho,
Idaho to Baker Oregon
Baker Oregon to Hermiston Oregon-- this is where it sits and has been for all of today
I am guessing it will next go to up to Washington or maybe get lucky and hit portland oregon.
Then portland to eugene.

And with my luck it will then get sent back to .. well shoot lets sent it over to Brazil then off to the east coast with a small stop in Japan to arrive smashed in eugene sometime after I have forgot about it.

And of course there is no guarentee on ground shipments.

It's no wonder Dell charges so darn much for shipping..
They let UPS take it for a tour. Granted its a laptop and made for traveling.. but poop man.. I thought I was suppost to travel with it.

You get what you pay for. Next time put some extra $$$ for faster guaranteed shipment or keep your mouth shut.. your choice.

UPS ground is only guaranteed if its not shipped to a residential address =( I checked.

The shipping was free, but you are right next time i am ponying up the $$ for faster shipping. Maybe via bike carrier or stage coach. =)

From UPS
Services listed as guaranteed are backed by a money-back guarantee for transportation charges only. UPS guarantees the day of delivery for every ground package you ship to any commercial address in the contiguous 48 states.

Don't forget to be present when the UPS guy shows up. They managed to stop by within the 30 minutes no one was home at my house today and left an infonotice. I think they were waiting around the corner. At least with Fedex you can go to the local Fedex center until to pick up undelivered packages the same day. UPS you have to wait till next day.

You don't have to be present in all areas where UPS delivers. Sometimes UPS will leave it at your front door and sometimes they will refuse to do that. If there are a lot of "stolen" packages in your area, UPS will require a signature every time. If you're not home, you can sign the little slip they leave you waiving them from responsibility if the package is stolen. You can either sign the slip, be home for the package, or go to the UPS Hub and pick it up. Also, where did you this "UPS makes you wait till the next day" stuff? Back up what you say please.

Well, Maybe the laptop started out in Texas anyways?

You know, Dell does have many distribution warehouses too...so who knows how it really works.

They do make you wait until the next day...Had to do that several times...can't just pick it up at the end of the night, you have to wait because of delivery schedules. Fedex allows you to pick it up that day =P

Me's thinks PowerMac4Ever works for UPS

Yes it sucks but it's free, better than paying Dell's outrageous $95 for UPS Ground Shipping.

What do you think the handling in shipping & handling is for?

I do work for UPS, and I can tell you for a fact you do have to wait until the next day to pick up a package if you were not home when it was delivered.

But if your UPS isn't that far I would recommend calling 1-800-pick-UPS, I think thats what it is, and giving them your 1Z number and tell them to hold the package at UPS, then you can go get it as soon as its delivered. So you could get it at like 9:00am as oppposed to 4:00pm or something. Just thought I would try to help out a little, since my nasty employer does have a habit of employing people that can't freaking read or have IQ's lower then 10, in turn causing your packages to get damaged or routed through some out of the way city when it wasn't needed.

But I also should say a lot of the things UPS does is to cut costs. While i agree that this isn't good for the customer, I am just saying that just because it seems like they send it out of its way, does always mean it was missorted or something, sometimes they just do that to save money.

I do not have a bias toward UPS, but I use them often and they have never given me a problem. I have also used USPS and fedex, not quite as much, but still often enough, and have had only 1 problem with USPS where they broke the glass in a scanner I was shipping, but that I can't totally blame on them. I mean i thought I packed it very well, but it is glass and I can see how easy it would be to break. I know it doesn't help much when receiving something, but when you are the shipper, make sure you pack the item very well, this will prevent most damages. I mean I hear a ton of people on here that say they pack stuff very well, and while I know this may not apply to those people, every day I see so many things that are not packed at all, most stuff is just thrown in a box which is too big for it, that is how stuff gets damaged.

Thank you

Maybe there was a misprint on the shipping label and instead of you getting a laptop, they are sending you a lapdance.

That's the only remotely logical reason I can think of why it is soooooo late in getting to you.

Hope you get it soon before that @ss of her's tires out. (Eeeeewwww. My girlfriend looking over my shoulder just asked how do I know they're sending you a girl to do the lapdance? bleeegh.)

good luck
