UPS shipping question (bought stuff on Monoprice)

I bought some stuff from Monoprice on Wednesday. It shipped on Thursday (7/23).

It is going from California to Connecticut.

I used Standard: 3-5 business days via UPS

The information in my tracking says that it will take the full 5 business days to get here (Thursday the next week).

Is this how long it's actually going to take? I was thinking that it would be here on Monday or Tuesday, not Thursday.

When UPS provides the number of business days to your item, it usually arrives that day. It's on a slow truck route to your location.

I've had carriers hold my package cause it wasn't scheduled for delivery that day.....

Unlike USPS, UPS packages don't move much on the weekend. It's very frustrating seeing a package sit for 2 days when it's close. Also judging from the damage to all my packages this is when they play soccer in the warehouse.

I figured Monoprice being so popular had warehouses on each coast. If I knew it were coming from California, I would have happily paid for faster shipping.

So aggravating. Now my project is delayed unreasonably unless a miracle happens.

UPS also has SurePost. It should say on the right of the tracking page under "Shipped By". That means that they hand off the package to USPS for final delivery. Fedex calls it SmartPost. This usually adds an extra day for me but UPS seems to get the delivery date right while Fedex estimates are a day early for me which is very frustrating. I live in a small rural town though.

On rare occasions I have seen UPS deliver earlier than their estimate so there is still a little hope. Not via SurePost though.

I have seen UPS deliver late on multiple occasions. Not sure post actual UPS. Sucks.

If you needed it sooner that's why there's always faster shipping options.

We get spoiled by Amazon these days who has warehouses everywhere. They can ship UPS Ground but you can still get the package in two days per their Prime 2 day guarantee. It's funny how more often than not my 2-day packages are sent using Ground, but they come from a neighboring state.

If it is heavy it will go by ground, if light and small it may get shipped by air and get to you sooner.

5 days is FAST for Monoprice. Typically it takes a month or two but it has to go through customs for me. Typically I don't order from there if I'm in a hurry, but every now and then I'll make a huge order to stock up on various cable related accessories so I can have them on hand. Keystone jackes, patch cords, etc. Customs and shipping ends up being really expensive but for big orders it's still cheaper than buying the stuff elsewhere and the quality is actually really good for what you pay.
