You should NEVER run laser printers from a UPS.

Well most home UPS have battery backup plugs and surge-protection only plugs. Anything that doesn't need battery backups should not be used in the backup plugs, especially laser printers.

It seems like the slightly more expensive RS800 is the better deal with AVR in both boost and trim. The LS700 has only boost AVR but I like its angled plug surfaces. The CS500 has no AVR but it's the cheapest. I would only conside the CS500 if I can't get enough fundings for all the machines.

I had an LS700, it died soon after I replaced the battery in it, and I now have a CS500. I got rid of my CRT monitor and actually get a longer runtime with the smaller unit than I used to on the bigger one.

I had a Tripp years ago, was ok, but too small, so I sold it and bought my first APC UPS that was almost 5 years old when it got nailed by a lightning strike. The PC still booted up afterwards! All I lost was my modem, and the UPS of course. My voltage is 125V+ so I dont need to worry about AVR. I'm very happy with APC.

I am looking at getting an APC unit as well but have never purchased one before. The RS800 is rated to 540W.

My PSU is rated to 480W by itself.

>>>From your rig description, you are fairly close to my main desktop and with 2 HDs, 2 NEC burners, 8 fans, etc, the highest I have seen mine draw is about 160 watts, and that was running GTA/SA with everything turned on, while torrenting in the background. Normally, the PC and 17" LCD pulls 117 watts, and can run for about 16 minutes on the CS500, it was 21 (I think) on the LS700 I had.

I realize the PSU doesn't draw 480W most of the time (if ever) but I was wondering how should I determine how large of a UPS I should get?

>>>Get the biggest one you can swing! Bigger is always better.

I will be plugging my computer (480W PSU), my monitor (2405FPW) and (if possible) my subwoofer into it.

>>>Uhhh, I wouldn't put the sub on it. The amps in them can pull a huge hunk of current when they work hard. My Sony 12" makes the lights in the room dim when it's really thumping away.
