I rented a DVD for tonight (MI2) but when I begin to play it I get an error message saying that the region code on the DVD doesn't match that of the player.

What does this mean? I've set the region code to N. America. I have a Panasonic 12x DVD drive and a Hollywood Plus decoder card. Anyone have any ideas? I'd like to get this fixed tonight before I have to return it. Thanks.

Ok, what you need to do is search the web for a program called, "Zone Selector." I had to change my region setting for my Hollywood+ card and this program worked beautifully. You can switch to any region you want. I us overrides the hardware setting. If you want me to, i'll email the program to you if you want. I think it is just one file... if it isn't, then i can't. Try searching the web for it first...

No it wasn't working. I was getting the same error. I'll try 4.1 and see what happens.

I'm still having problems. With 4.1 nothing happens at all. It doesn't seem to realize that a DVD is in the drive.

After you load Zone Selector, you have to go into the Configuration and manually browse your computer and find the program that plays the DVD. Once you find it, it'll load up the DVD player(program that controlls the DVD) automatically.

But after you find the program.. remember to hit "save" so you won't have to do it again.

The error occurs in the file "IMPEG32.DLL"

It says "Please set the region code of the decoder before playing."

EDIT: It also can't even find the disc in the drive. It says "Please insert a disc into drive G:"

maybe there is something wrong with you decoder card then... Have you put any other DVDs of yours in to see if they played without any problems??

No this is the first one I've tried. I don't own any DVDs yet but I wont buy any until I get this fixed.

Is it also possible that there is something wrong with the DVD that I rented?

Right click on the Icon in the Tray... then click on "display console". there will appear a box... Then click on the "configuration" tab.. and put select the Correct Drive letter that the DVD is in. If you haven't found the DVD program yet, do this also. then click on the "launch" tab and hit save. It should find the correct drive now.

yeah, there could be something wrong with the DVD, but usually there isn't... You could try and reloading the Drivers for the hollywood+ card... that might help. When i had Win98, i used the disk provided for me to load the divers and the computer wouldn't keep the drivers in the system. It would play for about 2 sec and it would give me an error message about the drivers not being loaded. But since i got WinME, i let WinME load the drivers on and it works beautifully. so you might let Win2000 load the drivers if it has the capabilities or you could go and search for a driver update online.

I am sorry that i couldn't help sorry about your bad DVD experience. I have grown to love DVDs and i hope you do too. I have spent so much money on DVDs, people call me crazy. I have stoped for a little bit and now i am in debt for Buying the HP N5125 laptop form Walmart... oh well, it had DVD also, so maybe my addiction hasn't stoped.

I've already tried re-installing all the drivers and software. One thing I haven't tried yet is running it under Win98. I don't know if that will help but I'll try it...

First download this to see if your Hollywood+ is in fact region-coded, and if so, which region it is coded for. If it is a region other than 1 (north america) then download Remote Selector 1.77 from the same site. However, to get the right version (1.77 as opposed to 1.74) it appears that you'll have to register (IE, pay for it)

Or, you may check this site and see if there is a firmware patch on the site for your Hollywood+ card.
