Urgent help needed re: Mac mini hdmi And 2048x1152

I am going to purchase and hdmi Mac Mini in an hour and need to know if it will be able to display 2048x1152 via hdmi

All I have is my iPhone right now and I have awful connection to the net. Can someone please please please verify it will work with my Dell 2309 at 2048x1152?

To the best of my knowledge, HDMI cannot output at that resolution at all. Do you have another system that can?

MiniDP hooked up over DVI could.

Use a DP to DVI adapter, then get a DVI to HDMI and you are all set. Very cheap.

HDMI is can be limited to the "TV" resolutions while displayport shouldn't have a problem.

No, I don't think he is. I think that HDMI has a resolution limit of 1920*1080.

HDMI has digital video signal and audio all in one. What is wrong with using an adaptor and running seperate audio? No biggie if you need to use the display port instead.

Ok, to clarify....

HDMI 1.0-1.2a : upto 1920x1200
HDMI 1.3 : 2560x1600
HDMI 1.4 : 4096×2160
MiniDisplay : 2560×1600

On current line up of MacMinis the max resolution is 1920x1080 via HDMI.
So in short, NO! IT'S NOT GOING TO WORK... not at your requested resolution.

Because HDMI cannot support the resolution. MiniDP can, DVI can, but once you convert it to HDMI, you are blown.

Also, there is no point in using an adapter, if the OP is referring to the newest Mac Mini, it has an HDMI port already. He can just not use that instead of not using multiple adapters.

OP, MiniDP-DVI. This is your answer.

Well, I ended up not buying the machine. Instead I bought an Intel iMac 1.83GHz for $100 off a friend's co-worker. It's absolutely caked with dust, but in perfect working shape.
Times are tough for some people lol, and he accepted $100 when I was making a joke offer. I would have given him more. No keyboard or mouse though.

I just needed a Mac because I am taking the support essentials v10.6 exam, and I needed something that could run Snow Leopard.

BTW, the new iMac comes with a DP - DVI adapter which would have worked perfect for me, in the box.

I was just reading about that mouse and I hope all the OSes will soon be able to make use if it. Particularly for those of us that use KVM switches.But for standalone on the Mac...awesome
