Installed win2k pro w/sp2 on an older pc. Under device Manager it shows two Standard Floppy Disk Controllers under Floppy Disk Controller. Both have the yellow exclamation point next to them. The troubleshooter shows that there is a Code 12 error and that I do not have enough resources to use the device.
Both are on IRQ 6 and it does not give me an option to change that. BTW I am logged in as Admin.
I have tried to remove, disable, etc. and reboot but they both come back and still conflicting. I have also tried to remove the com port form device manager to see if that woulds free up an IRQ but it didn't seem to fix the problem.

Any suggestions?

Also whenever I remove one of the floppy controllers the other one seems to no longer have a conflict. I can see the contents of floppies as well as the icon appears in My Computer. But as soon as I reboot, I'm back to square one.

I will try and reinstall win2k to see if something got hosed during the install but I'd still like to get some input on this.

Well I ended up just putting win98 se back on the machine and it was fine. I'd still like to know if anyone has any idea of why win2k would not go smoothly.

No idea why it happened, but the fix, so you can use w2k, is to not delete one of the floppies, and just have it reinstalled at next boot, but rather, to simply disable one of them in the current hardware profile.

I tried that but the one that I didn't disable still had an exclamation point and would not show up under My Computer after the reboot.

Delete them both, then reboot. It will detect one, and it should be OK then.

Tried that also. Believe me, i fought with it for over an hour and then I reinstalled win2k only to have the exact same problem. This was on an old AMD 400 MHz gateway.
thanks for the help anyway.
