URGENT: Question about ATX 20 and 24 pin connectors.

I'm in the process of installing my new Athlon 64 on a new Asus Nforce 4 ultra mainboard.
When I a moment ago was supposed to connect the power from the PSU to the mainboard, I noticed that the cable has 20 pins and the mainboard has 24. Does this mean I have to replace my PSU?

Also, should I connect the 4 pin 12V cable? I never noticed it before (i.e it was not connected on my old nforce2 mainboard).

If you can help me, please respond

Just buy a 20 to 24-pin adapter. It should only cost you a couple bucks and should work fine.

Thanks for the reply. Is that the only solution? It is not possible to connect the PSU anyway?

Thanks!

After reading the thread, I figured out I could connect the 20 pin cable to the 24 pin mainboard. I made sure that I left the end with +12V, +5V, +3.3 and GND open. And the cable didn't even fit on that end anyway...

Well, I connected everything and booted up. Some fans and harddrives started, but not all fans. Also, I got no picture on the monitor.

I was afraid my crappy 400W Aspire PSU wouldn't handle an Athlon 64 3500+, a Geforce 7600GT, 2 HDDs, 1 DVDburner and 5-6 fans.

When I unplugged an harddrive, an additional fan sprang to life. So, I conclude I need to buy a new PSU. I will have to get it from a local store, and my options are limited.

But, is this a decent choice?

Yeah, I'd definitely get rid of that Aspire PSU ASAP. Even if you weren't having any problems. Get a Fortron AX450-PN. It is plenty of power and is only $50.

Ok. But the problems I described sounds PSU-related, right?
One thing that is a bit strange is that the fan on the 7600GT started, but I still got no picture...

Edit: spelling

I'm not sure how much power a new 7600 burns, but I'm going to guess that 400W is running it a bit close to the limit with your load out especially with a lower quality one. I don't think you can go wrong with a Fortron or Antec (debatable now...) at about 450W.

Also, like elecrzy said, you need to plug in the 4pin 12V for the CPU. Double check with your MB manual. And yes, it sounds power related.

The 4 pin connector has 2 black wires and 2 yellow. I have a special 4pin connector on the mainboard with 2 +12V and 2 GND. I should connect it there, right? And not on the 4 free slots of the 24slot connector?
