Idle on the cores is 42/42/43/43.

Load playing a game 61/58/56/57

Prime95'd for 5min's 74/72/73/73

Now to go into some more detail here. When I originally installed this heatsink the first mobo I got was dead so it necessitated me removing the cpu and heatsink. It seemed the grease on the bottom was rather not well distributed (ill post pics later depending) so i ask you this fellow computer people... should i make a trip to pick up some AS5 or a better heatsink or both. I really dont like this low profile heatsink that this quad came with.

Maybe the grease wasn't applied properly enough or is just not conductive enough for a Quad Core which is bound to radiate more heat than a Dual Core.

I suspect that's your case (I could of course be wrong), presuming so then I'd say get some 70% to 80% Isopropyl alcohol to remove the grease (just use Q-Tips and rotate their ends with the alcohol on them, gently and softly, on the surface, use as many as it takes to get rid of that grease) and then buy some AS5 and apply it, a *very* thin layer, just start with a little drop in the center, then put *some* pressure on the heatsink, then remove it and look how spread the AS5 is, it should ideally cover all of the CPU's surface, but the layer *must* be thin.

That's a rather cheap way to make sure that you don't need to go the more expensive way (new heatsink). If that doesn't work however then you should indeed invest in a better cooling solution, but stay with AS5, that's the best compound in my book.

batch on box says, L803B257

edit: ill hopefully pick up some AS 5 tomorrow and we shall see if that helps any thinkin that has to be the issue, was rather doubtful about the initial spreading of the default goop that was pre applied.

edit2: room temps at the time of testing were ~21-23C

what's your distance to tjmax? that's a much more useful stat right now since nobody really knows what tjmax is. As a comparison, most q6600 owners don't want to go over 70c, which is 25c delta to tjmax. The highest I've seen reported by a reputable source for 24/7 operation is markfw900's quad (b3 I believe) at 18c delta to tjmax. your temps in the 70's are probably 31/33/32/32 delta to tjmax, which is actually not a bad temp. having said that, the CRAPTASTIC stock hsf that somes with these bad boys would be better used as a paper weight or perhaps as a weapon with which to threaten hector ruiz into early retirement.

last time I checked an ac7 was only $23 shipped in hot deals, or you can keep your eyes peeled for a deal (I got a used tuniq for $28). most good hsf's come with thermal compound.

Well core temp says tjmax is 105C. Not sure if that means anything or not. Seems a pain to get accurate temps outta these things.

Proper way to apply AS5 to Intel Quad Cores:

To OP: Idle temps seems fine, but looks like you lack a decent HSF for your setup (30C Trise is astonishing!)....
