So at the end of my honeymoon, my fiance and I were going to be in London. We needed to get back to Chicago on the 25th. The flights were super expensive, but we found a flight that went like this.

Dublin -> London -> Philadelphia -> Chicago

We thought, hey, its super cheap and we can just board in London and fly home. Well, I get a call today. US Airways changed the flight. It's bumped back an hour and now its:

Dublin -> Philadelphia -> Chicago

Now, the flights from London -> Dublin aren't available early enough. So now I am forced to lose my reservation and deposit ($200) at the london hotel on the 25th, to fly on the 24th to dublin to make my flight (another ($200).

So US Airways didn't directly screw me or anything, but im out $400 and lost a day in London to gain an evening in Dublin. Is there anything I can do? Or since I was gaming the system do I just need to roll with it?

Would they even let you board in London in the first place?

I was under the impression you had to get on where you were supposed to...but I could be wrong.

Something in your post doesn't add up. You were originally going Dublin -> London -> Philly, and now are going Dublin -> Philly but somehow you have to get from London to Dublin? So you were originally going London->Dublin->London as part of a return flight?

I don't get.

I don't get.

yeah, I will be in London the day of the flight. original plan:

Dublin -> London (board) -> Philly

US Airway changed to:

Dublin -> Philly

(me stuck in London, needing to get to dublin for the flight)

I didn't see why this wouldnt work. The tickets don't say "continuing flight or something" you get pass for each one i thought.

Ahhhh... No, you were making a fatal flaw there. If you don't board the first leg of the itinerary you booked, you are scratched from the rest of the itinerary as well.

You could have called and made an excuse that you got delayed and would like to just board in London and they probably would have been ok with that, but since the flight has now been rerouted that's irrelevant.

I believe that if you hadn't boarded the flight in Dublin, they would have cancelled all the other legs of the trip and you wouldn't have been able to board in London.

**Fail for me - Slick already pointed this out**

Yeah, you should thank US Airways for making the change, because now you won't be stuck in London having to book a flight the same day :laugh:

Roll with it. I asked our company's travel agency if I could split up flight reservations [as it would save about $500.00]. They said it sure, but there was no guarantee of being able to hold the connecting flight or make changes to my travel plan [automatically] due to delays [which hopefully I understand what you were trying to do.. if not, then I will go back to taking more cold medicine!]

Exactly! Once you didn't show up in Dublin, they would just cancel your reservations for the remaining legs. And having to solve THAT problem probably would have cost you a heck of a lot more than the $400.
