Developed by the U.S. Army and a world-class team of Department of Defense experts in simulations and virtual environments, America's Army will be available in August. The Army will distribute America?s Army for *free* in response to requests at America's Army and GoArmy.com, through distribution partners that include leading computer game magazines, at Army events, at recruiting stations, and through internet download. The game is rated ?T? for Teen by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board.
So you'll be able to download it as well, I still imagine there will be some sort of mailing address collection form.

Still looks pretty cool. It should keep me happy until TF2 comes out, hopefully there's "realistic" and "nonrealistic" modes, as the nonrealistic damage is what made TFC so much fun for me. PA is saying it should go gold in June, so we'll probably see it mid june/july.

Now, you right wingers can scream about wasting tax payer money.

Aside from being far from a "right-winger"... It's all about the image of the Army. Raise up kids to think the Army is cool and the Army will get more funding.

PR rules the world nowadays. Sigh.

Has anyone bothered to see who these people really are?

Shouldn't the "army" be a .gov extension?

anyhow, someone do a lookup on the hostname and let us know....

It's the U.S. Army, you skeptic.

I noticed that a few of you reported that the America's Army server was down.

Please note your posts suggested that the server was down during the noon time hour. This period of time (lunch time in the Washington DC area) is when there are more people surfing the net than at another time and place in the US.

So, anyone trying to get to www.americasarmy.com during lunch time is probably wasting your time.

I really liked the idea of the Army giving away its pc games as a recruiting device; it was a brilliant idea. It sure targets the right demographic market.

However, I was shocked that there was this much brains in the Army. We might be in very good hands after all.

Saw it in E3, haven't tried playingit, so I don't know the gameplay is good or not.

About graphics, Metal of Honor Allied Assault (PC one, not the Frontier PS2 one) for sure is better and might be Ghost Recon is also better than it.

I have seen this game before. Once you install it it dials out to the internet and calls you repeatadly everyday and at 6:00AM on Saturday and Sunday until you agree to play. Then the next few days are spent listening to the game yell at you and call you no good fat scum. Then once you complete that level you move on to the peeling potatoes & washing dishes level.

I wish I could go to E3 :-(

And now I can! Vicariously through Penny-Arcade.

From everything they've said about it, America's Army looks to be a very good game. It's built on the UT2K3 engine (looks very nice, but it's not close to Doom 3) and promises to be the most realistic squad-based FPS. By realistic I mean it in the simulation way, not the "has weapons from real life" way. I prefer the latter, not the former, but I'm definitely going to give it a try.

I'll need a new video card, though. Looks like it's back to browsing Hot Deals.

I saw it on TV news, looks pretty nice. Not due until August anyway...will make a nice late summer surprise. They spent a few million on it....but still cheaper than a bunch of TV commercials and get the word out that the ARMY is cool. And it support big MP....I love WWIIOL...this could be fun too. Give me a Abrams and an Apache Gunship!

Pretty smart if you think about it..

And who ever cried about downloading 600MB files....I got Cable....I've grabbed 600MB Linux disc's in under 20 minutes each. No big deal. Broadband rocks!

Some racist bastards in Oregon release games where you shoot racist renderings of black people and jewish people. Now the US Army releases games where you shoot people. Hmm.

7.5 million dollars to make...
In an interview, someone said that as long as 300 people sign up for the Army due to influence of the game, it will be worth it.

Thats 25k per soldier

They spend that much money to recruit ONE guy?

Was surprised, it did look very nice and fun at E3

Yes Recruiting is expensive, and the recruiting numbers have been down in the past few years.
