Well considering that sauron's army doesn't have guns and nukes I would say that you would be correct in that instance; however, if they did have all those things then they might win.

With unlimited ammunition, I would take 400 US soldiers and a few M1s over Sauron's army. I don't think the orcs have any tactics to deal with RPGs and 50 cal machine guns.

Even WITH melee weapons only, I bet US Army would destroy Sauron's Army... Look how easily they fall to even the main characters...

Of course, with air attacks... US Army probably won't take a single casualty... Jets/long range guns/rockets >>>>>>> Bows and arrows and crossbows/catapults.....
