Things like discussions only work with those willing to listen. This is on all sides, but more so with the idiots supporting that grifter in our nation's capitol. They would rather burn the house down so they can "pwn the Democrats" than do what is best for America as a whole. Unseat those in Congress who refuse to accept the truth and are aiding in inciting violence.
I agree in general, but insulting people that are recognizing harmful behavior in politicians like Trump will only turn these people back to Trump. We should reinforce positive thoughts, not tear people down as for them. It probably won't help, but it also can't hurt, and it could help to bring conservatives back towards the realms of sanity.

Yes, lets unseat those from Congress who refuse to accept the truth, lets get rid of the politicians that deal in lies and conspiracies. To do that, we need to accept voters that previously voted for Trump and his like. I'm not confident that we can always energize voters to turn out like they did this election cycle, and I do not want another Trump voted in four years from now.

Ah yes. We should all sit down and "listen" to these people right? If only we tried to understand them, they're just poor people suffering economically, vlagh blagh bullshit!! Worked so well for Obama ey?

These are people who voted for a guy who literally didn't have a political platform! It was just "fuck the libs". They shot machine guns at pictures of "liberals", Pelosi etc.
No, we shouldn't sit down and listen to them. But we should treat them with respect when they are showing signs that they might be listening to us.

Yes, these are people that voted for possibly the worst President in history. We should encourage them if they recognize it was a mistake, unless we want them to repeat that voting pattern four years from now. It might not make a difference, but telling them to fuck off will ensure that they continue to vote for fascists.

So you think love works? I cannot sit there and love this group, as the second we show the love, they will beat us with a bat and say that’s how they love.
We don't need to love them, and we certainly shouldn't trust them, but we should encourage them when they show signs of recognizing how foul of a leader Trump was. While I'm glad this election turned out the way it did, it terrifies me that possibly the worst President in the history of our country lost by razor thin margins. I'm not saying we embrace their policies, I'm not saying we give them power, I'm simply saying we promote people turning away from fascist leaders.

Sorry...you can't reason with cultists.

Not saying you need to reason with them. Just encourage them when they start to recognize they're in a cult.

Nah, encourage them to drink the Flavor-Aid...Here, have a second cup...how about a 3rd?

Please do tell how encouraging people to abandon destructive perspectives can hurt.

I understand your point, but it seems far fetched. I agree that if they are ready to move, you let them and encourage them. I doubt many would. These minds are no longer among the living. The ability to do this is crossing a line. Once crossed the ability to get back is hard. If they had the resolution, they never would have crossed that line. That is the dilemma.

Belief perseverance and the backfire effect make it incredibly difficult to encourage anyone to abandon destructive perspectives, and in many cases can more deeply entrench their beliefs. Given today's events and how entrenched and dangerous their beliefs clearly already are, I hardly want to risk seeing what would happen if my pushing only made it worse.

Note, I didn't say pushing, I said encouraging. In other words, if someone recognizes what is going on is crazy, just give them a thumb's up and move on. Or just don't say anything. Telling people that are suddenly recognizing Trump is dangerous to fuck off is guaranteed to make things worse.

There are a lot of sane Republicans. My comments were not directed at any of those. You can talk to and reason with sane people even if you are on different sides of an argument.

However, you will never be able to reason with these domestic terrorists, which is what the Proud Boys and QAnon are. And they are being encouraged by someone who is supposed to lead this nation forward, and by many elected officials who are encouraging such viewpoints and inciting violence, even so bold as to announce it publicly like the Arizona GOP.

It's worse with many of these Republican politicians. No matter if you're a Democrat or Republican, you're supposed to lead us. The whole point of being an elected politician is to guide the rest of the nation, so the entire nation prospers. Not tear it down. I have disagreed with policies from every president, Republican or Democrat, and that goes for Trump as well, but the policies I agree with Trump are far and few. He has been a disaster. American is weaker, and weakening further, with him at the helm.

I'm not asking anyone to reason with QAnon and Proud Boys. I'm asking, if people previously supported Trump and these groups, and are now coming to realize that he might actually be a bad President, don't tell these people to fuck off because they changed their mind. Tell them to fuck of if they espouse support for these groups. I want to try to diminish support for these insane groups. Not to try to reason with these groups themselves, not to try to find common ground, but if individuals are turning away from these people that are weakening America, we should encourage them.

Thomas Burani from New Jersey should join her in GITMO

So much to unpack in that video.

First of all, full name and video testimony of crimes committed.

"This could be you or your kids."

Uhh...no, we don't bum rush the nation's capital hoping to achieve what exactly?

Party of law and order, personal responsibility at work here. Yikes.

So here's the real question:

Is this a one-and-done phenomenon, people got it out of their systems, maybe some will actually self-reflect and be aghast at their actions (LOL, I know)

or is this going to be the norm moving forward? Short term? Long term?
