Never mind: appears to be a fire at a homeless camp (which is telling in it's own right)

Small fire at homeless encampment, now extinguished:

Hard to believe we react like this to a fire at a homeless camp. In the last there would not have been a word written about it, but today’s, it’s on broadcast news, etc. Amazing how we are so on the razor’s edge after the insurrection and now the “chatter” (which this phrase was once exclusive to foreign terrorist after 9/11, but now we are here) from the dark web activities that drew those leaving the public areas used for the 1/6 events. All this amazes me, its planned in the public square, law enforcement does not take it seriously enough, there is an insurrection, the public square gets shut down and these rats scurry to the hidden corners to continue to ferment this hate and anger.

Hard to believe that 3 weeks of "be there, will be wild!" and a report by the FBI that these groups were planning to attack the capital and STILL the Sgt. at arms declined the request for national guard to be there and ready, this seems either impossibly dumb or someone was paid to ignore the obvious.

There's no "seems" about it. One or the other. Sgt. at Arms of both the House and Senate (2 positions) declined to bolster the Capitol Police for the 1/6 event that cements the election, and which was targeted as the last chance to prevent Trump from being evicted from the White House inspite of intel that violent actions were planned. Trump may have had a hand in restraining actors from stepping up security. Both SaA's and the Capitol Police chief have resigned. They are forever disgraced.

It was beyond their imaginations that Trump would send an angry mob to attack the Capitol. Inconceivable. I mean, this is America. Surely his supporters aren't that crazy. The notion that they were complicit is sleazy innuendo. They just blew it, plain & simple.

Just took a peak on a gun forum. I really hope you all bought weapons the last four years. These people are full on batshit crazy. Everything we know them to be they are projecting on us. They seriously believe we are the monsters their media feeds them daily.

Just dropped into my favorite bowl of bat shit crazy for a peek. I hope I can sleep after tonight's peek.

Bat shit crazy #1, COVID vaccine is the "mark of the beast"
Bat shit crazy #2, Trump released all classified UFO documents so "we would know"
Bat shit crazy #3, attacks #2 as there is no other intelligent life, god created only us, 6,000 years ago.

Closes tab, flushes browser cache, and goes and gets another beer.

I just took a gander at the general forum on a gun forum and couldn't get past the topic titles. Too much ignorance, hate, anger and fud for my liking. As much as I hate to say it speech needs to be policed. People are nowd acting on crazy shit they read or hear and can no longer tell what's real and what isn't.

There needs to be honesty in media standards.

Some people are just plain proud of how stupid they are. It's just that kind of person who would love Trump. Trump makes sure he doesn't lose the stupid devotees by celebrating stupid. It's easier to celebrate stupid than smart. Smart takes work, something that Trump has never cottoned to. Stupid is easy. Can we inject bleach?

I should note that these three bat shit crazy are all retired military, enlisted NCO's, no commissioned officers. #1 and #3 Army, #2 Navy.

This is what the Repubs want. It's to their advantage that this unrest, this turmoil, this fear, the hate, the uncertainty that they've fomented since day one of Trump's term stays with us well past Biden's first year in office and beyond.

They don't want the stability that the Dems need to get things done. This is Repub guerilla warfare at its finest and McConnell is their CIC with Biden and the Dems being their sworn enemy. As with Obama, the Repubs will try to damage Biden's presidency to the fullest extent in the hopes of making him a one term president.

The Repubs can't rely on their ideology to win elections so their only alternative is to make the Dems look worse than they are by selling lies wholesale, by instigating the same 'ol tried and true distrust, hate, fear and suspicion in order to divide the nation for as long as possible until the next election cycle comes along where their lies and deceptions will, as usual, really ramp up. Heaven help us if Biden ever wears a tan suit.

On the one hand you are probably correct as to the facts, but I don't see how raising the other possibility is either "sleazy" or "innuendo". It's an obvious possibility given horrendous incompetence. If they want to argue they weren't complicit they were merely disastrously bad at their jobs they are free to do so (and absent any other evidence I'd believe them), but it's not an unreasonable question to present them with. If one screws up so badly in such a high-stakes situation one should expect to have to answer that sort of question - malice or ineptitude?

At least some of the deaths were a direct result of that incompetence. (Maybe the heart attack and stroke suffererers would have died anyway).

I've been seeing some commentary that the officers seen 'waving them in', or taking pictures had gone into a self survival or coping mode. At least some had realized that there was no support coming and were trying not to get killed.

The question remains about why they were so unprepared. Complicity, if any, may have been right at the top.

We shouldn't allow people with those beliefs in the military, period. Even a buck private in the army should be smarter than those guys.

I think this is the guy that conservatives have claimed is a "BLM activist"and pointed to as evidence that the riot was a false-flag thing. Nothing about the presence of one oddball to me suggests the assault was anything but a Trumpist one, stirred up first-and-foremost by Trump himself. But he does sound like a very strange guy. I think the reality is some Americans do this sort of thing the way Brits do football hooliganism. For the sheer buzz of it.

That's an interesting read, but it does seem to go on forever. Yes, the buzz of it. Not a smart guy, but likes being where the action is, takes a camera (phone, probably) and a megaphone and shouts whatever gets him someone calling him his buddy. IMO, they should lock him up for years along with all the other fools and assholes who invaded the capitol. They have to make an example of these people to show everybody that there are some things that won't be tolerated. This is one of those things. Trump and Giuliani should be behind bars for years as well. And that Senator from Alabama.

I don't know if it said it in there (as you say, it goes on rather, and most of the 'meat' is towards the end) but somewhere else I heard it said that his brother is a member of the Proud Boys. Also that they were trans-racially adopted, which might have something to do with his odd dual-identity.

Or is 20+ years in the military what created these people?

During my first and only enlistment I achieved the rank of E-5. In my same division on the ship there were several E-5's, all with 6 or more years in, one with 20+ years. There was resentment how quickly I made that rank.

During that time the Navy came out with standards that would require a person to advance at a certain pace, or not be allowed to re-enlist. That effected the 20+ year E-5, and he had a fit. He did make E-6 after I got out which was probably a challenge for him.

The people in my division on the ship where probably a bit more intelligent as it was quite technical, and you had to have Top Secret clearance to be in our rating.

Just like trump, the trumpanzee's are busy making shit up and flinging it at the walls in the desperate hope that some of it will stick.
