Because he broke his putter in a fit of anger and can't replace it mid-round.

Tee times are random for the first two days of a tournament, things usually even out because of one morning and one afternoon start, but because of rain in this Open, some golfers played both rounds with favorable condition.

BULLSHIT. The poorer conditions lasted for no more than 9 holes for anyone due to play being suspended so quickly. Most of the guys, even the ones in the tough half of the draw, played only a few holes out of a 72 hole event with the weather being a factor. That's akin to the wind changing direction for ONE BATTER during a baseball game or it raining for 2 plays during a football game. It's an outdoor sport, you man up and play, over the course of a year everyone gets the best of the weather sometime and the worst other times. In this case the players themselves have no complaints about the weather. The only people complaining are the ones who worship Tiger and are trying to blame his poor play on the weather while conveniently or ignorantly forgetting the fact that Tiger's worst stretch of holes, +4 through 4, came during the best part of the weather when everyone else was shooting lights out.

You are dense. The early golfers on Thursday played in bad condition and returned to bad condition on Friday morning, the late starters played both rounds in sunny weather with receptive greens.

"Definitely, our side of the draw, I really got an advantage," said Weir

Are you calling bullshit on the golfer who was actually out there playing and know the condition.

I don't think you can blame the USGA for the weather. If it had been dry and windy, all scores would be much higher.

Well what can they do? it would be logistically difficult to just cancel it until later so they made an obviously imperfect decision to start the tournament, but what were the options, tell everyone to "just come back next week"??

you do realize that if the weather was really good for the 4 days the scores could be even lower

but everyone would have had a similar opportunity to get those low scores...

and poor weather conditions don't necessarily hurt a score. balls stick on a wet green much better than a dry one.

Thanks

It could be interesting. The top two dudes are unproven and they could drop a 5 stroke lead on a couple of holes.

Have you watched the US Open in the past? There is NO WAY the scores would be better in good weather (consistent throughout the week).

The last time it was played here Tiger was the ONLY one to shoot negative.

The weather has made the greens incredibly receptive. Yes, if you are playing in the storms you're going to get shafted, but once the sun comes out and the puddles go away, the greens are going to be regular tournament easy (or easier) to hit into because they can't speed them up. That's why all the guys on the second tee-off got so lucky. They didn't play in any crap, and by the time they got onto the tee the greens were their play things.

it seems like that is exactly what is happening right now. Glover and Barnes are both 3-4 strokes over par right now.

It's anyone's tournament right now... even Weirsie is still in the mix... and yes someone named Tiger Woods is lurking, but he's running out of holes.

Woods has to few holes left.

Mickelson on the other hand is in a great position to win at this point.

Phil still in the hunt, -1 thru 11. Barnes and Glover completely blowing up today. Tiger is indeed running out of holes with only two left and he's done terribly at 18 this week. But maybe he started on the back nine and #9 will be his last hole?

nope, he's only got 2 left now after a par on 16.

SWEET!

Go leftie! Looks like scoring is really difficult today with very few players having an under par round. I kind of thought barnes would crack, it happens so often when an unknown goes into sunday with a lead at a major. Glover had some rough patches yesterday as well. I'd really like to see Phil win it, it's time after so many close finishes.

I can't watch but how are the crowds? Didn't the USGA say if you had Thursday tickets you could come today?

He's loved 17 all week and I believe his scoring on the back nine has been better than the front. Don't jinx him.

Phil isn't my favorite ... but given his situation, if he wins ... I'll be mighty impressed. His wife must be going batshit right now.

Glover coming up on the "easy" par 5 13th. par-birdie-par for his 1st 3 rounds.

And Glover has been remarkably steady on the back nine. 2 bogeys and 7 birdies. rest pars for 1st 3 rounds. Phil needs another birdie or two.
