A couple in the US has decided to keep the race of their two-year-old child a secret.
Lee's parents, both 24, made the decision after hearing about a Swedish couple that had decided to keep the sex of their child a secret. Aside from those that know the couple, nobody else knows Lee's race; if anyone inquires, Lee's parents simply say they don't disclose this information.
In an interview with newspaper ,The Onion Times, the parents were quoted saying their decision was rooted in the anti-racism philosophy that race is a social construction.
"We want Lee to grow up more freely and avoid being forced into a specific race mold from the outset," Lee's mother said. "It's cruel to bring a child into the world with a color stamp on their forehead."
The child's parents said so long as they keep Lee's race a secret, Lee will be able to avoid preconceived notions of how people should be treated.
