Have you ever watched how criminals act? Normally they are traveling in a stolen car. Then they try to flee from the police till they drive their stolen car off the road or into an occupied building. Then the flee on foot from the police and often shoot at the police if they have a firearm. They don't care who's car they steal, or how many motor vehicles they wreck or how many innocent people they run into. Cops often find they are either high or they have drugs in their vehicle.

Do you get your information from Hollywood? What percentage of criminals do you think this describes?

If only #1 were true, innocent people wouldn't get killed, but they do.

And isn't #5 the definition of a police state?

By number five I meant once you are talking with the police. Something like "Hey, I'm going to reach into my waistband to get my ID". Doing that without asking is a bad choice. I'm as white as newly fallen snow, but if I hopped out of my truck and quickly reached for something in my waistband I would not be at all surprised if I got shot. If this is not common sense, then perhaps that explains the plethora of incidents occuring.

Most of the cops involved in recent shootings covered by the media are vets from Iraq/Afghanistan.

And probably middle-class white conservatives who grew up in the suburbs or the country.

There are some simple steps to not get killed by cops:

1. Don't break the law
2. If you're being arrested don't resist
3. Don't throw things at cops
4. Don't run from cops
5. Don't do anything without asking first

99% of people killed by cops were doing one of those things.

Only viable if cops don't have itchy fingers and control management issues.

Or, you know, just stand there doing nothing and they still shoot you. Apparently standing is considering doing something without asking. Breathing? Yeah, that must count too.

People die in a lot of different ways. Some people die because they have an illness and if they are handcuffed they might just die. They die in their car fleeing the police. They die doing stupid things like playing football on ski's. Then people call the police for a man with a gun when it turns out to be a plastic water pistol. Everything cant be the Police's fault. For instance a man flees from the police in his stolen car and kills 2 people when he runs into them fleeing the police. All kinds of things happen.

People jump off of buildings. People run their cars off of cliffs or into the water to commit suicide. People try to go through drainage canals and end up drowning when their car is swept away. Kids crash when they are drunk and they are already half dead before the cops get there. People kill themselves and others cleaning their gun. Children die in an accident with a bicycle and an automobile. Motorcycle deaths. Accidental drownings. Operating a boat and using alcohol. Farming Accidents. Construction cave-ins. Airplanes fall out of the sky. Falling off of or being trampled by livestock or horses. Snake bites. Scorpions on a plane. Mauled by dogs, gored by a bull, mauled by bears.

All of these things could result in contact with law enforcement officials, park ranges, etc.

People also die simply by doing nothing but being a law abiding citizen doing everything correctly, and a bunch of shithead cops decide to play SWAT team during a drug bust, until they find out they're in the wrong house, at which point they make up a story about the innocent homeowner looking like he was grabbing for a gun.

I guess you're OK with a few broken eggs for that drug war omelet?

Read my original post. I said that 99% of cop shootings would likely be avoided by following those rules. Most cop shootings do not involve them rolling up on people walking down the sidewalk and blasting away for no reason at all.

And the other 1% of unjustified homicides are A-OK?

Do you have a source for that statistic? Or are you using your feels to determine how many people "deserved what they got"?

But if they did, they could just make up a reason to put it in that 99%, and who's going to be able to argue?

Contrary to what another poster said, I don't hate cops. I just don't trust them to police themselves.

The 1% encompasses things like busting down the wrong door in a drug bust (inexcusable). Nearly every case the media tries to stir up as cops killing innocent people is some criminal fighting with them and getting his dumb ass shot. To the benefit of society.

Cops do need to be more closely monitored, but it's not this epidemic that the media has tried to create.
