Wonder which country is going to emerge as the new 'leader' of the free democratic nations? Many are mentioning Germany, which I think is likely. While the US still has military dominance, its respect on the world stage has largely been derived from its 'moral' positions and sides it has taken on issues that face the world. The Iraq war did a lot of damage to that image, but it remained intact, Trump has driven a stake straight through its heart though.

Meanwhile in Russia, things are looking up Israel as well, but this I would guess is due to how reliant Israel has always been on the US for arms and foreign aid, which is not going anywhere under Trump. I don't fully understand that relationship. I've always assumed it's driven by the evangelical fanatics and their myths that tell them Israel is some sort of holy land.

Of course. Nobody is paying attention to Bibi inching his dick further up the Palestinian bunghole...

The rest of the world hating the US is good news for so-called conservatives. In their minds, it's sticking it to the "globalists" and UN weenies and shows that America is finally standing up for itself.

Personally I'm hoping that both international tourists and corporations start giving us what we deserve (until such time that we want to act like adults again): none of their money.

I'm curious how our tourism industry fares this year--I can't find any 2017 stats yet.

Someone on another forum had this link:
https://techcrunch.com/2017/05/24/foursquare-data-shows-international-tourism-to-the-u-s-is-down/

Don't know much about that site, biases etc. I'd personally want to know more about other factors (strength of dollar) and more years than just one to get a feeling for whether it's really down or not meaningfully.

America continues to make the Middle East safer and more prosperous for Israel. Now we have Trump pushing for war with Assad and Iran despite the fact that there is no reason to attack them. Assad has no incentive whatsoever to gas his people or ever has. It's just America being the bully that it always was.

LOL now we Jared Kushner as the MidEast peace broker. What a joke.

I think America and Russia have been secret allies for many years now. After all, they carved Germany and divided the world (supposedly) in blocks. If they weren't working together all along, it wouldn't have happened that way. The illusion they give us is that they are enemies - sure. When have America and Russia gotten into a real altercation? They haven't and won't because it's all a big game.

Why would imperial nations like America and Russia go to war with each other? Yeah, on the surface it makes sense. It gives them an excuse to build their militaries but they know they aren't going to fight.

Not leader of the free world, but leader of a dictatorship and an apartheid state world.

Don't you see what you just did there?

If the world was truly "free," it would not have a leader. It would not need politicians to tell us how to live and what to do.

The Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board just updated its predictions based on the current climate.

The agency projects a three-year loss of 800,000 international visitors to Los Angeles. That means an estimated loss of $736 million in direct tourism spending.

The decline comes after a steady increase in the past years of overall visitors and an all-time high of foreign tourists in 2016.

That explains the 3 million illegal votes.

The leader of the free world leads by example, by being worth following.

Yeah looking at these charts... Canada is in an awkward position.

It's a delicate road to travel no doubt, Canada's economy is intertwined closely with its US relationship. I hadn't voted liberal since I was a student, but there have been several reasons I've been happy with voting for Trudeau. His diplomacy in navigating the chaos and crisis engulfing the US under Trump has been one of them.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/22/...edCoverage&region=EndOfArticle&pgtype=article

The War Room
In the weeks before Mr. Trump’s inauguration, Mr. Trudeau reorganized his government to focus on his now uncertain ally.

His new foreign minister, Chrystia Freeland, a former journalist with long experience in the United States and an unapologetic champion of the global liberal order, is seen as able to coax the Americans when possible and defy them when necessary.

Ms. Freeland’s team of America-whisperers includes Andrew Leslie, a former lieutenant general and Afghanistan veteran who knows many of the American generals filling out Mr. Trump’s administration.

Mr. Trudeau established a “war room” dedicated to the United States, headed by Brian Clow, an operative with the governing party who had worked on some of its most important election victories.

The new office sought to cultivate the people around Mr. Trump. During a February visit to the White House, Mr. Trudeau and Mr. Trump’s daughter Ivanka led a panel on women in business. The two later attended “Come From Away,” a Broadway play about Canada sheltering travelers whose flights were diverted after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The efforts initially paid off. Mr. Trump’s February address to Congress mentioned only one foreign leader: Mr. Trudeau, whom he praised for his panel with Ms. Trump.

A few days later, the White House exempted the Keystone XL pipeline, overseen by the Canadian firm TransCanada, from Mr. Trump’s executive order requiring pipelines in the United States to be built with American steel.

But the honeymoon did not last. Mr. Trump accused Canada of unfair trade practices and threatened to exit the North American Free Trade Agreement, which would devastate Canada’s economy. Though he agreed to renegotiate instead, officials here fear the uncertainty could scare off investors or prompt factories to relocate.

Other foreign leaders found their administration allies similarly unable to temper Mr. Trump. Many shifted from absorbing his attacks to returning them. The Canadians felt they could not afford such a downturn.

So Canada turned to courting every other level of government, forming something like a doughnut around a White House-shaped hole.

Canadian officials have fanned out across the United States, meeting with mayors, governors, members of Congress and business leaders on matters from trade to the environment.

Ministers’ schedules resemble those of rock bands on summer tours. They travel armed with data on the precise dollar amount and number of jobs supported by Canadian firms and trade in that area.

“They’re going to great lengths, going into parts of America that few cabinet ministers from Canada have gone to,” Mr. Burney said.

Hints of this network emerged when Mr. Trump announced that the United States would leave the Paris climate agreement. Canadian officials said they would instead seek climate deals with American states, many of which were already in progress.
