There is a huge difference between Acting polite and actually Being polite.

Is there?
What is politeness other than a matter of how you act?

I'm pretty sure there have been some very brutal dictators who were charming in person.

Indeed, it's easy for those with the most power to act 'nice' in person, precisely because they can have others carry out their crimes for them. I don't for a moment think that should be used to excuse them.

Trump may be unusual in being a horrible guy both politically at-a-distance and up-close-in-person. But that certainly doesn't excuse the Chinese regime, or Xi himself.
(It would be a very strange alternative universe where Xi and Trump were swapped over, come to think of it)

Reminds me of how many people confuse blunt delivery with "tells it like it is." No, your bluntness just refers to how directly you say something; it doesn't change the truth of what you're saying.

Trump, for example, is usually either lying or demonstrating his ignorance, but his followers snap it up because he tends to use no tact or subtlety (and is very fond of yelling). At the same time, his supporters are distrustful of politicians who use measured language, even though it's often being used to accurately convey the subtlety of an issue.

South Korea says Kim Jong un is "alive and well". As with any other nation, the S. Koreans have their own interests to take care of, so I would assume their stance on Kim works for their own best interests.

I hope he's really dead, but they keep playing along as if he isn't. During press conferences, they just trot out his dead body and sit it down in a chair.

President of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly in North Korea, Choe Ryong-Hae has confirmed the death of supreme leader Kim Jong-Un today (April 26) in Pyongyang at 6 am (ET+9).

Vice Marshal Choe Ryong-hae said in an emergency press conference that North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Un passed on peacefully at the Kim Man Yoo Hospital in Pyongyang after delivering the best of service to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Highly skeptical of that given the site and lack of corroborating claims at the moment.

Yeah, I also suspect it's bullshit...even though I am the one who posted it.

I'm not sure if I do. Not because I think Kim is any good. I just don't know if the alternative will be worse. This is a time of great transition and uncertainty globally. It is the worst time to throw more of it into the mix.

There is absolutely no difference between acting politely and being polite since being polite requires you to act politely. What you are talking about is sincerity, which has no bearing on the conversation except as a means for you to attempt to squirm your way out of admitting you are wrong, once again. But please, don't let me stop you from making a fool of yourself for nothing.

Well I disagree. Pretending to be something doesn't make it so.

Remember when Obama was worried about the health of a dictator?

Yeah, neither do I.

Let's get a President that worries about the health of the citizens he is serving - and not some nuke crazy mad dictator.

I for one hope that we send aid to NK during this uncertain and trying time for them.

He probably just read (or had read to him) the briefing on Kim.

I'm just surprised he's managing to not blab about it, although I'm sure he's presumably forwarded it on to Vlad.

I'm sure he is practically hopping up and down and singing/chanting "I know a seee-cret.....I'm not gonna tee-eelll..

At any time, I expect Kim to come out and say all rumors of his demise have been greatly exaggerated. What he and Trump have in common is that they both fuck with people.
