It's not beyond the realm of intelligence. China held a downed fighter over our head, I would completely agree with shooting down a satellite "because it's fuel is dangerous" over letting it fall into the wrong hands.

They at least try... IntSats now often have masking and other features to try and actively avoid such detection.

satellites don't secretly exist. We keep track of just about everything down to the size of a golf ball floating around up there.
