infostate are you a sales rep promoting the site?

1.7 per minute.....not really if you read all the fine print.

There are maintenece fees, possible conneciton charges, prices subject to change without warning, you must pre-pay, limited local access numbers, toll-free access is available, but if you use it, it increases your cost/min by about 55%.

READ THE FINE PRINT........

I formally flame this post..... go get OneSuite....it's been around, easy to use ..... feel free to post replies (it'll get your count up...ha ha).

two small gripes about onesuite.com. (but I use it since it's pretty darn good)

1. 800# is sometimes busy, but usually just re-speed dial the number and it goes.

2. It's pre-pay, which is fine, but the "account" expires after awhile (2 months?) so you gotta use up your minutes.

Edit: It's 6 months as mentioned below....unless you recharge.

Just share the deal with you guys. Is there a commitment with onesuite? Because I usually use up the phone cards and throw it. No commitment, no lock-in.
Thanks for your letting me know onesuite.

I concur about OneSuite. No catches, just cheap and convenient, and fantasticly inexpensive for many international calls. I also have everdial.com as my dial 1+ long distance. Everdial has 4.9 cents per min (24/7) with no monthly fee and 6 second billing. 3.49 cents per min in-state California.

1) BigZoo/OneSuite also offer local access numbers, have you checked to see if any are in your area? Two other suggestions, use the pre-programmed buttons on your phone (assuming most ATers at least have a cordless phone which offers this feature) and that's what the redial button is for. Press it a few times and within 1-2 minutes you'll get through.

2) 6 months not 2 months, and that 6 months is extended for another 6 months if you recharge your phone card ($10, $20 or $50) before your PIN expires.

Hey dbLA,

OneSuite's 2.9¢ / minute works both IN and out of state.

Why everdial, at all?

My phone line is now configured *without* *any* inter-LATA or long distance service providers.

If the spouse or kids try to direct dial, they get an odd intercept message that says "The number you are calling from has been disconnected. For assistance, please contact your customer service center."

That means there is no direct dial long distance service provider configured.

It means no one can place an out of area call (other than toll-free / local) without using OneSuite or a 10-10 (-811 Vartec - also recommended).

nekote,

I've been tempted to do as you suggest, but, sometimes (infrequently), I get dropped calls or terrible echos/latency/noise from onesuite. The extra "hop" from having to dial through them is likely the culprit. Also, for California, I don't mind spending the extra 0.6 cents per minute for the convenience (and lower latency) of dialing direct. I guess the 1010 numbers might be a solution. I will have to look into that. VarTec, though, has a 50 cent minimum per completed call (according to their website).

Don't get me wrong, though. Onesuite is my first choice for 90% of my LD.

Another vote for BigZoo/OneSuite (latter is better in many ways, since no surcharge for 800 access number).
I also recently discovered another service that beats their rates, but for best rates local access is available only in New England.
www.dialaroundtheworld.com is the place -- no stake in it, but a European friend was visiting last week and found one of their phone cards locally. They are especially good for calling foreign mobile phones.
Big drawback: no PINskip feature, so you have to dial in your PIN manually (or program your phone to do so).

dbLA,

Touche!

I forgot about that, as far as domestic calls go!

But International to Japan has *NO* 50¢ minimum!

For Onesuite.com, does anyone knows if there would be a higher toll if you are calling to a mobile phone? I emailed them but no answer for a few days now. They don't seem to reply to questions very quickly.
Thanks.

There are mobile surcharges for Foreign. I call some relatives in ITALY and this is the case but it is usually listed on their rate sheet. As far as domestic I don't think so.

I checked their site, here are a few comments:

1. They are not like OneSuite. They are resellers of many other prepaid calling cards.
2. They were out of stock on the card with the cheapest rate for US to US.
3. They have a "Maintenance Fee" for their cards. I HATE maintenance, nay, ALL fees.
4. I did not see any sign that you can check your account online.
5. They give you "points" for bringing in others. (I HATE bringing in others. Then you get "free gifts" by redeeming those points. I bet those are junk gifts and you also have to pay S&H. (Does CyberRebate rings a bell?
6. The whole site smells/feels shady, in my opinion. This is no OneSuite.

This "foreign" mobile/cell phone charge seems to apply only here for some reason.

I regulary call Hong Kong, but higher rates are charged from the USA even although the calls to a cell phone are no different to calling a regular phone number.

I'm another Bigzoo user. I previously used the calling card options but there are so many "hidden" charges it normally doubles their advertised rates
I used to buy 200minute cards that were advertised as 5c a minute to the UK. In actual fact you only got around 100mins - even although the card stated the actual number of minutes and told you the call time available when u dialed the number.

After a lengthy call to the CS department, they explained the "hidden" charges which were dubious to say the least. I heard about Bigzoo last year (almost a year ago now) and never looked back since

Next time u use a "calling card" make a note of the actual number of minutes you use - and see if it all adds up.

Don't worry -- we in the US aren't being singled out: in most of the rest of the world, one pays more when calling a mobile number.
It has to do with the airtime payment structure. In the USA, mobile phone customers pay for all airtime, whether calling or receiving a call. In most of the rest of the world, one does not pay airtime on incoming calls, the airtime charges being paid, in effect, by the party making the call.

Please note my post above regarding Onesuite/Bigzoo's rather high rates to foreign mobiles -- that's why I'm now trying out www.callaroundtheworld.com, though I should note that Voicestream's rates seem pretty OK for calling mobiles abroad, around 29 cents/minute to the UK, for example.
