One can always get another job for more income. One is not entitled and does not deserve to only work on part-time job to live.

$9.70 isn't a living wage. The only way people can survive on that is because of food stamps etc.

Today we have to deal with hard ass republicans.

All the people I know that get food stamps are sadly, the elderly folks on a fixed income no longer able to afford their healthcare costs, thus they now qualify.
And add into that, the fact that a lot of grand parents now help in raising the grand kids cause mom dad or both have lost jobs.
Senior citizens have a hard time supporting both themselves AND the grand kids too.

And all the other people I know that use food stamps work at minumum wage jobs with no benefits. i.e. MacDonald's or Wally World.

Yes it is pretty bad when one works 40 hours and still qualifies for food stamps.
And those people are usually families with kids.

Obama and the democrats realize and know full well what is happening in America.
Republicans in power could give a rats ass.

The unemployment rate is 10%. The incentive to work is decreased when there are no god damn jobs


And we are talking about people WITH JOBS who need food stamps to survive. And if we want to increase their wages or let them unionize to negotiate better deals, you'll holler and scream and fight tooth and nail to keep their wages low, while at the same time bashing them for needing food stamps. Putting food on the table for lower-class Americans costs about 1/10th of our defense budget.

Food assistance programs inject cash directly back into our economy. Grocers, manufacturers, farmers, and everyone in-between in our food supply chain benefits just as much as the people who don't have to choose between paying rent and feeding their kids.

Give Americans the choice between food assistance programs and 2 months of the Iraq war. It should be a pretty lopsided victory.

Also - 668 bucks a month of food stamps? Steak and lobsters for all! Go to a walmart 1st of the month at midnight and see what kind of people are on food stamps and what they're buying. Go at least once for an eye opener of what YOUR MONEY is being used for and by whom.

It must vary by state, because in Illinois there are quite a few restrictions on what you can buy via food stamps.

I was behind a lady who couldn't buy a can of beans because the salt content was too high. She had to walk back to the isle and find a different, less salty, can of beans.

I will agree that the amount given for food can be a little high. In Illinois for a family of 4 the maximum is $668/month. I am able to feed a family of 2 for less than $300, and I eat quite well, if needed I could get that down to $150-$200 really easily.

Ah, seems I was confusing SNAP with WIC. Looks like SNAP really doesn't have much in the way of restrictions, sounds like they need to implement the restrictions of WIC.
