You can dress for the cold but can't dress for intense heat. The cold is really not that bad, and due to global warming it actually does not even get all that cold here anymore unless you go to like the territories. We get maybe a week of -30's in my area and that's as cold as it ever gets. The south of Canada hardly even sees double digit negatives. When people in Toronto say it's cold, it's like -10. lol. If I am doing physical activity that's pretty much jeans and tshirt weather.

Without getting too P&Ny, I'll just state that if policy makers really cared about gun violence they'd do something in Chicago.

But I digress. Lets ban all drugs and guns. After all, the drug problem is working out just nicely.

I think the ultimate problem is the psyche of society. Change the culture, not change the 2nd Amendment.

Yeah not really sure what can be done law wise. There's just more crazy people in the states than in Canada. And in Canada all the crazies tend to be in the bigger cities. You stick a lot of people together in one place and it just produces more crazies and more violence and the states has way more super big cities. Though that last shooting was actually in a really small town so that was kinda an exception.

I don't think there's any hope for a solution in this country. I sometimes wonder what if there was a mass shooting every single week, would that do it? And sadly, I honestly think not.

It's unlikely gun policy will change anytime soon because:

1) The NRA's political connections and cult-like followers. Any addition of gun legislation results in war chants of "THEY'RE TAKING OUR GUNS!!!", causing a small and loud group of people to raise hell and withhold contributions.
2) The NRA has promoted a successful propaganda technique: "Any solution proposed will fail because of...X" This technique has convinced people that trying anything to limit guns will automatically fail.

The DID do something in Chicago- the city has very strict gun control measures in place. The problem is none of the surrounding areas enacted the same rules, so anyone can just hope one county over, get whatever they want, then drive back to the city. It's the equivalent of trying to stop the flu from spreading in a crowded room, but only one person is covering their mouth with a mask and washing their hands.

Gun violence isn't a big deal because when people are shot, we can think about what happened and then recite a "prayer".
Thoughts and Prayers fix everything.

That's what I hear at least.
I live in a state with very strict gun control laws and we have very low crime rates. That and we are outside of the bible belt. Thoughts and prayers don't do crap around here because all of the atheist and agnostics.

Those that do own guns around here do so because they heard gun ranges are fun.

What's sad is the lowest state rate is still abnormally high compared to other first world countries.
