USAF 'Snark' Nuclear Missile... Plaque.

Recently we've been thinking of selling this plaque we have had sitting around the house.

Originally we tried to see if the city (homestead) wanted it, they were interested in it, but were only willing to pay 100 bones ($100) for it. The metal itself is probably worth more than that.

We got a hold of it by buying it from the guy that cleared out the property that it was on, which was many years ago.

It weighs about 40 pounds, and I?m not sure what type of metal its made of.

But enough of the blabber here is a picture of it:

Anyone have an idea of what this could be worth? Were thinking of putting it on eBay with a very high reserve, but before doing so we're interested in possibly knowing how much its worth.

As far as I know there is probably only one of these (at least for homestead), making them rather rare.

Umm contact the countless Military Antique dealers there are in the US? Phone, email, whatever.

Umm, it's says *right there* on the plaque it says "Donate to city of Homestead".

It's it already theirs?

Okay, heres what happened.

We contacted the city, they offered $100, we wanted $200, they said nevermind.

They did not want it enough.

If it was already thiers they probably would have demanded it be returned, which they did not.

Wow I'm quickly beginning to dislike this forum.

The city does not want it, and I'd rather have this nifty plaque than $100 or even $1000.

I seriously doubt you read the line to them that says it was already donated. It's not your property to sell. Actually it's illegal to sell it, possibly a federal PMITA crime, depending on who donated it (USAF?).

I'd bet the city would want it if they knew it was theirs and didn't have to pay a penny.

Your all forgetting one vital fact.

The plaque was not the donation.

The missile was.

The plaque just states that the missile was donated to the city.

After hurricane Andrew the air force base moved, the guy that found the plaque had to clean up what was left and he was required to make the land bare.

With that, anything that was on the propety was going to be trashed, most of it being junk especially after hurricane andrew.

This plaque is one of the things he found, and then we bought it from him some years later.

Therefore it no longer belongs to the city.

I can't see that this could have much value (who wants a huge, heavy plaque that contains nothing but text?(, but by all means contact some military memorabilia dealers and see if they want it. If not, just donate it to the city or keep it.

Sounds like the Snark had a short, unimpressive history.

What you need to do is find someone who has a SNARK missile and needs a plaque to go with it.

Hahaha.. that's pretty cool. Although I'm not sure how legal it would be to sell, I'd imagine you could get at least a couple hundred bucks for it on ebay etc...

(and yes I realize the plaque wasn't donated, the missle was - however the plaque obviously went along with the donation, and for that matter, is clearly "government property" in general)

Good conversation piece though.

Hmm, I wonder if someone connected to US Strategic Command (STRATCOM) would be interested in the plaque? That's something that would look good in a headquarters building. If you'll hold off for a week, I'll see if I can contact the Public Affairs office for STRATCOM. They might even pay for it.

odd thing for the government to donate an ICBM to a city. I wonder how many kilo/megatons that warhead was.
