Sadly if you give it to the city, it will probably end up in another dump - like the one you found it in. It is amazing the stuff that cities either store or toss.

I would personally keep it. If you were to sell it, ask an impartial source (a non military collector) to look into the value first. Military collectors will most likely just try to screw you.

I personally, would offer it to the city again for a reasonable cost (and $200 is reasonable, hell $1000 is easily reasonable). If they refuse, well, then, they just don't care about their history. I would then proceed to keep it - because it is cool as hell and a great conversation piece if put in a good location in your home.

It was a very long range cruise missile. not an ICBM.
The Snark was armed withe the W39 warhead yielding about 3.8 - 4 MT.

For comparison, the highest yield nuclear warhead currently in active service is the B83 thermonuclear gravity bomb yielding 1.2 MT.

Of course, the question is where did the missle itself go? Was it destroyed by Andrew perhaps?

That would be awsome.

Though I am re-thinking this and I might decide to keep it unless I'm given a good offer.

ICBM = Intercontinental Ballistic Missile

Now the wording is "Intercontinental Guided Missile" but isnt that the same as an ICBM?

Guided missiles and ballistic missiles are two different things.

Guided missiles have some sort of guidence system, whatever it may be and are powered though most if not all of the flight.

Ballistic missiles just follow a ballistic trajectory, it goes up it comes down, and it is unpowered on the way the down.

voogru, aren't you the one that likes to oogle babies? And you're a cannibal, too? God, I really can't stand baby eaters, but I'll tolerate them. Cannibals, though, really piss me off. Eat dogs. Pigs are smarter than dogs.

They did not want it enough.

If it was already thiers they probably would have demanded it be returned, which they did not.

you're an ass. give it back, it's the right thing to do.

As another poster pointed out, a ballistic missile follows a ballistic trajectory like artillery or a rock that you throw. The warheads can be steered a bit, but the general course is ballistic.

A cruise missile never leaves the atmosphere and relies on thrust and lift to stay in the air. Its course isn't ballistic at all.

I can't see that this could have much value (who wants a huge, heavy plaque that contains nothing but text?(, but by all means contact some military memorabilia dealers and see if they want it. If not, just donate it to the city or keep it.

Sounds like the Snark had a short, unimpressive history.

Looks like a V1 from WWII.

Yup, the V1 was the first cruise missile. The US made a direct copy of that called the "loon". Used a pulse jet engine. My dad made a small pulse-jet engine. As you'd expect, it looks like the V1's engine.

Yeah, thats a smart thing to do.

If it was any importance to them they would gladly shell out a measly $200 for it. It's not like I wanted 5 million dollars for it.
