Good deal if you don't like messing with rebates.

I just picked up two of the Kingston 512mb data traveler jump drives, over at Buy.com, for stocking stuffers. $56, with $10 off for google checkout, and a $19 rebate is available, plus can be used for up to two drives! 2x 512mb of Kingston goodness for $8 after rebate!!

I was in for the same deal. However, I used Google check out, which gave me an additional $10 off. In the end I?ll only pay $2, plus mailing cost of the rebates, for two 512 flash drives. I also had the same idea to make them stocking stuffers for the kids.
Beats a pack of gum.

Back to the topic, decent deal for a 1GB flash drive, no rebate hassle. I might have to go down and pick up one.

I wouldn't really consider this a hot deal, but it's possible. I've seen flash drives go for rather cheap lately. But hey, it's not expensive and it will come in handy, so for $15 with no hassle, it's worth the money.

I grabbed the 512 today, good deal for those of us that need one and hate rebates.

Offer good thru Sat 11/25.

I realize that buy.com has constant hot deals but I'm unimpressed with their standing as an online retailer. I wanted to bring this to the attention of folks that still go to B&M stores and don't want to wait for rebates.

I did try to get in on a buy.com deal once, but they do not use online inventory tracking so they continue to charge credit cards for products they don't have. That in itself is not a big deal but they don't communicate that to you and don't respond to emails in a timely manner.

I got one of these today as well. It's a very nice price for no rebates. It's also USB2.0. It's small and slim compared to my old Lexar, but the keychain connector is plastic.

How do you know they do not use inventory tracking, and that they charge your credit card for products they do not have? Do not start rumors that are not true by your own experience of "trying to get in on a buy.com deal, once". Buy.com most certainly uses inventory control on their items, because their hot selling items certainly go out of stock frequently and their web pages reflect that their invertory is OOS. You can order an out-of-stock and they tell you it will ship as soon as it is in stock, and your credit card will not be charged until the item ships. Maybe very early on they had troubles of charging CC before they shipped but not at least for the last couple years. I ordered an item not-in-stock as late as 5-2005 and it didn't get shipped for over a week and I was not charged until it shipped. He's the email.

Hello esquared,
We are still working on shipping the following backordered or preordered item(s) from order #xxxxxxx.
You will not be billed until your product actually ships.

Also, when using a rating system such as resellerrating I have posted before that it is in the best interest of the shopper to look at other ratings sites, possibly Bizrate and Pricegrabber.com to name a couple. Resellerratings is a good site but it needs to be tempered with other ratings sites to get a better picture. If you used RR alone you probably would not shop at Amazon based on their 6.2 Resellerrating here. Amazon at RR How about Office Depot's 2.39 rating or Office Max's 2.50 reseller rating

I just went in store and picked mine up. Its pretty nice. Its a bit slimmer than flash drives from the past few years, and the activity light is a nice blue color. The cap seems like it will stay on well. I didn't bench the speeds or anything, but i sent a 550mb file to the drive and it was on the drive in under 4 minutes.

best of all, no rebates

I didn?t catch that. I was worried there for a second. Went a verified mine was USB 2.0, it is.
My drive looks just like the one in the picture in the link I provided, but with one exception, were it reads USB 1.0, mine reads USB 2.0. That?s the only difference I can see.

If they offer a product for sale stating that it is "in stock" and they don't have any to ship then that is what is called "no inventory tracking". As far determining is a credit card has been charged, I've figured out how to use my banking website. Apparently you have not.
I expect to have prompt communication of order problems whether it's stock or billing issues and buy.com severely disappointed me. If you have luck with them, more power to you. They burned me once and that's all I need to go elsewhere. There are plenty of other online retailers to choose from.
