When upgrading to USB 2.0, do you also need to get "special" 2.0 USB cables? Will current 1.1 USB cables cause a problem? I see on the buy.com site that IOGEAR has cables identified specifically as USB 2.0. Just wondering.

Using USB 2.0 certified cables will help prevent possible problems. Kinda like using CAT3 (10Mb/s) cable at 100Mb/s speed. It'll work, but don't expect to run a 100ft length, especially in a EMI-noisy environment. Or like using 8x rated CD's to burn at 32x......they might work, might not.

And of course, USB 2.0 cables are USB 1.1 compatible.

To another question above, when talking MB or Mb, usually the capital "B" means Bytes, whereas the lowercase "b' = bits.
I say "usually" because advertising departments are not always the most computer-literate when it comes to proofing work.

Anyone got a rebate form?
The one now on their site says valid july 1 to august 31.
Was there not one that was good for purchases before this?

Expounding on the cable question a bit: I wondered the same awhile back, and researched. I found that if the cables are certified as USB 1.1 compliant they'll work fine with 2.0. Unfortunately, less than 30% of USB 1.1 cables are certified. So, as Souka said, if you want to be sure to get the higher throughput, go with 2.0 cables.

USB 2.0 Cables (2) for $6.95 at BJ's wholesale (new item). You get a 6ft and a 10ft true 2.0 USB cables and there both A to B cables, not like the old package they carried where one was just an extension cable. They go quick tho I picked one up and a office mate said they could use one went back next day and the entire box of 30 units was all gone...I guess people don't like to pay $9 to 15 bucks for those overpriced Belkin 6ft cables

USB 2.0 Q:

You know how you can use firewire to network computers. Can you do the same with USB 2.0? I have a compaq 2800t that has USB 2.0 onboard so getting it on my desktop may be a nice easy way to share files if its possible.

Cables are available to peer to peer network thru USB 1.1. I suspect you would need one designed for USB 2.0.
I haven't seen any listed yet. You can also connect ethernet to USB 1.1 adapters, again they would need to be USB 2.0
I expect we will see them sold before too long.

I just downloaded 220 Meg of pictures from a Microtech 256 card in 50 seconds!

I downloaded 250mb pictures from a compact flash card last night with my USB 1.1 Zio, it took about 8-9 minutes. Still way slower than 50 seconds.
