USB 2.0 to 1.0 or 1.1?

Hey guys, hopefully you can answer this...

I have a case that only has 2 usb ports (in the back) and both are in use. I need more ports for a camera, but my case won't allow it... however, my MB will (ecs k7s5a v1.0). Now, i'm thinking of getting another case (w/o new psu) that includes 2 additional ports in the front of the case. Since ecs k7s5a supports only usb 1.0, if i get this case, and hook up the usb 2.0 to my MB, will it work, and will I get USB 1.0 speed?

The question is, compatibility, I know usb 1.1 and 2.0 are both compatibile but I'm not sure about 1.0, although I don't see any problems with it.

If they are compatible then your drive would in fact operate at usb 1.0 speed. Your best bet would be to buy a usb 2.0 pci card and a 3.5 memory/usb 2.0 card reader (assuming the pci card has an internal header on it).

The SIS735 chipset supports USB 1.1. Considering the spec came out in 1998, I would hope so.

In that case you have nothing to worry about, it will connect just fine but it will only transfer data at USB 1.1 speeds.

Do you have to connect pin headers from the motherboard to the case? If so, it may not work. USB 2.0 uses different pin outs than USB 1.0/1.1. That being the case, your USB ports may not work. You could always get a 3.5" drive usb front panel that is USB 1.1 compatable if it doesn't work. I can't say for sure it won't work, you might just have to give it a try.

thanks for all your help...

i think I'll just get a 4 port external usb hub (which supports 1.1) , which usually is cheap, and that way i'll get 3 additional ports. It saves me more time than getting a new case and transfering everything around.
