I cant seem to get USB 2.0 to work on one of my computers, windows XP Pro SP2. I insert any usb 2.0 compatible device and my pc either locks-up or shows the drive that I connected(Flash or HD) as 0.0 bytes.

This is my mainboard.

This is a screen shot of my device manager.

Any advice would be great. Thanks

If you're using front USB ports on your case, also try the mobo's built-in rear ports, or did you try that already? I'm thinking maybe the case's USB wiring isn't 2.0 stuff, just a first shot at it.

Hmmms Could you dive into the BIOS and ensure that the USB controllers are set for HiSpeed and not FullSpeed? HiSpeed is the real deal, despite FullSpeed sounding better. You might also uninstall the USB controllers from Device Manager, let them get redetected, and aim the driver detection at Windows Update, although since one's already listed as Enhanced, I'm not sure if that'll help in your situation.

Any PCI cards installed, by the way? I have the manual but they don't elaborate on the chipset IRQ sharing layout, unlike Abit, Asus or Intel. If you have PCI cards installed then you might try with them removed as a fact-finding step. Another long shot since I'm having to guess here.

I already looked into the BIOS, there isnt any options pertaning to speed in there. I reinstalled the controllers like you said again(even though I had tried already) and instead of saying "via enhanced controller" it now says "via 2.0 enhanced controller", but I still have the same problem with USB drives, my USB printer works fine now. I always thought enhanced ment 2.0. Im gonna flash the bios one of these days when I got some free time because Im out of ideas. Let me know if I missed anything, or havnt thought of somthing yet.

Edit: Here is a new shot of my device manager. Also I removed all PCI cards, no luck.

If nothing else works out, consider buying a $10 USB card with a non-VIA chip on it. Sorry I can't think of any better suggestions here.
