The case I bought has a usb 3.0 front port but it has one of those stupid connections that needs to be plugged into an actual port. My mobod has a connection on it for that purpose. Is there anything out there that will connect to the usb and adapt it to the the mobod? Thanks.

I wonder if you can take one of these --

...and then remove the cabling from the mounting bracket, and substitute it for the wiring that came with the case. It would all depend on how close the USB females are to the original ones in the case, but it might work.

I was planning on trying this, because I have a 3.0 header on my board and am seriously considering moving my build into a HAF X.

? actual port ? means ?

The motherboard header for extra USB ports. Mine has 3 headers that each support two ports so in theory I could have 6 extra USB gadgets hooked up.
Where they would go I have no idea. Never seen a case with 6 front USB ports.
That would be SWEET!

What OP needs is a PCI card with USB 3.0 ports.

I had to do something similar, deconstructing the rear bracket that came with my P8P67 Pro mobo so it took up less space and plugging a USB3 card reader into it. Biggest hassle was finding somewhere to tuck the ridiculous volume of cabling I was left with to go 6 inches.

You can do this if you don't want to spend any money (very little, though . . ) for the cables etc. recommended here.

If the mobo has the USB3 plug on it, with the motherboard you will also get a PCI backplate with two USB ports at that end, and the motherboard plug on the other.

Unscrew the plate from the plugs. connect the other end of the cable to the motherboard. Plug in your case's USB3 ports to one of the plugs, and tape it with automotive self-adhesive rubber hose bandage. (Or just use electrical tape).

You would then have one of the plugs remaining to be used. For about $25, you could then get one of these or something similar that would fit a 3.5" drive bay or a 5.25" bay with the adapter:

On this particular item at the Egg, two customers isn't even a sample by small-sample methods. I got the SYBA, and haven't had trouble with it (used as I described.)

But with that, you lost two USB 3 ports by the disassembly I described, and gained four -- in addition to the ports build in to your case.

BTW, if you have a case that takes USB 3.0 and you have a mobo with USB 2.0 and want to plug in a USB 2.0 device on the front panel, would that work?
