I recently bought a new digital cam.
running Win98se on a AMD 2100+ 512mb ram
I've run into this issue before but can't remember how I remedied it.

I can plug the cam in and get ready to transfer pix.
As soon as I turn cam on, windows freezes.

Anyone run into this before?
If so, what's the issue?

What brand is your digicam - did you contact the manufacturer? They may have answers

From what I heard, there seems to have problems with Kodak digicams.

Few Suggestions...(these are not list of what you should do - they optional)

1.) Download the latest update of driver for your mobo
2.) Uninstall digicam driver, reboot computer, reinstall latest driver for your digicam
3.) Plug USB first before turning your computer on
4.) Open up "My Computer" first and then turn on digicam

My in-laws used to have a Kodak digicam running Windows 2000 and sometimes it freezes or re-boots computer. The fix: Reinstall latest driver; Plug USB cable into computer and other end to digicam; Turn on computer; Open "My Computer" first and then turn on digicam.

It's a Fuji S3800.

I've had the same issue with other USB items, so I know it's a windows issue.

Anyone know how to remedy it?

Visit the Fuji Site for the FinePix 3800

Also check out the trouble-shooting page... might help.

1.) try different USB port
2.) make sure USB is enabled - get into BIOS to find out if it's on

SYMPTOMS

Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices that are connected to a Windows 98 Second Edition-based computer may not work if both of the following hardware components are installed on the computer:

[*] An AMD processor (running at 350 MHz or faster)
[*] A VIA Technologies USB controller

[*]Microsoft.com - Search: Windows 98 USB, AMD

Hope this help!

USB is enabled, and I'm currently running 2 other USB devices.

I installed the patch from MS some time ago.

I've tried several cominations of connecting.
turning camera on then plugging it in, plugging it in then turning camera on..etc..

it will only work if I reboot with the camera on and plugged in.
But I shouldn't need to.
