I have been receiving this error lately, whenever i plug in anything to my USB Ports on my laptop.
I have tried a Logitech and an I-rocks usb mouse. ("usb device not recognized")
I have tried various thumb drives. ("usb device not recognized")
I have tried a Western Digital MyBook External hard drive. (locks up computer)
I have tried an Ipod. (locks up computer)
I am running an older HP Pavilion DV6000.
Windows XP Home Edition SP3 + current security updates.
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller
Nothing hardware/software comes to mind that would have changed anything.
After some online research I have tried the following with no positive results:
1. Restacking the USB controllers (In windows and in safe mode)
2. Physically checking the usb connections on the motherboard (all directly soldered on)
3. Downloading/Reloading usb drivers, and or peripheral drivers. ie mouse/hard drive.
4. Unplugging computer from wall, removing battery, and allowing to sit for extended period.
5. Regedit trick to remove unwanted drives and peripherals.
6. Downloading updated BIOS, and flashing.
7. Unchecked all settings for usb devices such as "allow computer to shut down this device"
I am about out of ideas on what I can do to solve this problem. Can anyone think of anything else that I can try, or any fix to solve this problem?
Thanks for the help,
Tyler
