Picked one up yesterday and it's working fine. Spec is 0 - 9.99 pounds but will weigh up to 19.99#. Some say it's possible to damage the sensor at > 10 LBS. Needs a USB connection and PC to work, but the auto populate WEB page feature looks nice. My store had it yellow tagged at about Regular $30 and marked down to $25. Nice to see it ring up at $10.

What's the sensitivity / accuracy?

Can this scale be used to measure an ordinary First Class envelope to determine if it needs postage for, say, 1 versus 2 ounces (or 3, 4, ...) ?

Measuring to ~10 pounds leaves me wondering.

Didn't find that info in the web text.
Didn't really want to install the .exe "drivers" in hopes that it might have that definitive info.

Yeah, it would be nice to know how accurate it is guranteed to be. If it's do that, then I could use it, otherwise?????

It is pretty sensitive. I bought one yesterday.

Doing some testing with pennies (2.5 grm) I got .026KG with 10 pennies, .051KG with 20, .078KG with 30.

With a 1kg book on the scale, I got the same increases above with the pennies.

HTH,
Bod

The software is slow and bloated on the windows side, but the mac software is pretty decent. I wonder if there are any third party apps or linux drivers for it? Other than that, the scale is pretty good for the price.

Bought it - seems just lovely.

Didn't initially seem to work.
Re-boot fixed that. Whew!

Seems acurrate down to a very few grams.
At least, via the coin at a time test!

Is marked as "Not Legal for Trade" (on the bottom, in black raised plastic lettering).

$2 extra for 12 month warranty - potential replacement with latest / greatest model (since this is being discontinued).

Clever.
Using USB for power, data and display - of course does require computer - elminates that as a manufacturing hardware expense.
Also, software has linking to web sites (USPS, UPS, FedEx, ...) w/auto form fill to determine "postage" fee.
No need to re-program / update ROM or anything whenever rates chage.
Cool!

GAWD - the software takes 19 MB of memory - sheesh!!!

Do you have to install the software to get it to actually work? Or can you just plug in the USB cable and start weighing stuff?

You need to install to software in order to use it. There is no lcd display on the scale, so you need the software to display the weight measured.

Excellent Deal!
Picked up the last one at my local Radio Shack in L.A.
Very robust and solid unit. Overall, even better than the $10 one I got from Circuit City.

Thanks OP!

Just a FYI,

I bought this scale at this price awhile back. I've been using it and last week I tried to ship a package out via Priority Mail. I weighed it 3 times and it came out as 2 lbs, 14.5 oz
So I paid for the postage and took it to the Post Office. While I'm taking care of some other business, she weighed the package and their scale said its 3lbs, 1 oz. I had them use one of their other scales and it said the same thing. So if I had dropped off my package, it would have been sent back to me for inadequate postage :/

Thanks OP. I just grabbed one of the last ones in my area.

FWIW: There are a couple more left in Brevard County, FL.

Does it have a mechanism for adjustment? Wonder if it's a matter of calibration (original setting) or inaccuracy (variation in weighings)......

Did you make sure to tare the unit before using it? If it was callibrated incorrectly, then it might have caused the issues. I have used it to find the weight of numerous packages, and have not had any of the problems you have experianced.

I wonder if scales are like clocks?

The joke used to be anybody with more than one clock never knew what time it really was. Now we have atomic clocks (set via radio time thing) and computer clocks, and everything ticks over exactly the same. I already have the stamps.com scale, but a USB toy sounds like fun.

2,14 vs 3,1 is like 10% error, maybe the scale is fubar or the software, but I would suspect user error first. Maybe that $2 extended warranty is a good idea?

Has anyone tried it with Windows XP x64?

If it requires drivers, I'm afraid it's not going to work with a 64 bit system.

Yep I tared it before using it. Still gave incorrect readings.

My wife has a scale that she uses to weigh her food. I took something that was approximately two pounds and compared the readings between the two scales.

The Radio Shack scale read low by approximately 1.09%. That is close enough for me!

Also note that there is a "convert" button that goes to a locally-stored web page. I took a look at the page source. It should not be difficult to hack the page to give a "corrected" reading if you know how much your scale is off. It woudl be a bit of a hack, but it would work.

I'm going to pick one up today. Took me 3 phone calls to find one near where I am going today, but no big deal. Actually, the 2nd phone call found me one, but the store is way out of the way. The 3rd call got me one that is about a 3 block detour.

I figure that I will just check my scale against a known weight item, and as long as it reads 'under' the proper weight, then I will tape together some coins or washers until I come up with a proper 'add-on' weight.

For this price, the $2 extended coverage would be a no-brainer.
