USB hub that uses 9 pin serial; does it exist?

I'm looking for a USB hub that connects to the computer through the old 9 pin serial connector. My only USB port on my laptop has gone bad and I need to have USB capabilities.

USB is way slower than serial, plus it's a completely different standard. Not gonna happen, sorry.

Is there anything else I can get that would give me this functionality? I'd rather not have to replace the board just to get my USB back.

They also make converters for such a set up nut PCMCIA is the better route

Actually it's the other way around. Serial = 128kbps, USB1.1 = 12mbps, USB2.0 = 480mbps


And to the original poster, there is no way to convert a serial port to a USB port. As was recommended I'd suggest a PCMCIA USB card.

Actually USB 2.0 no longer exixts as USB is classified as Low, Full, and Hi-Speed and there are adapters for Serial divices to work with USB...

Hi, Serial tops out at 15,500 BITS PER SECOND /10 = 1,550 BYTES PER SECOND. USB is specified in BITS PER SECOND so divide that by 8 to get BYTES PER SECOND. Hope this clears up some of the confusion. Jim

Not really, why would it be 10 bits/byte for serial?
